Apple’s reported $240 million Austin expansion is not the cost of its entire Texas campus. The figure refers to two later Phase Two office-building projects at Apple’s North Austin campus at 6900 W. Parmer Lane: Capstone Phase Two AC09 and AC07. Together, the buildings were reported at approximately 419,441 square feet.
That work sits within Apple’s much larger $1 billion campus plan announced in 2018. The latest cited evidence does not establish that the entire Phase Two program was complete as of August 16, 2026.

What the $240 million covers
The approximately $240 million figure was reported in January 2023 as the combined estimated value of two construction filings. It should not be described as a new, standalone Apple investment announcement or as the total cost of Apple’s Austin expansion.
The projects are:
| Project | Description | Size | Estimated cost | Status information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capstone Phase Two AC09 | Four-level office building | 203,941 square feet | $120 million | TDLR lists an estimated completion date of September 30, 2026 |
| Capstone Phase Two AC07 | Five-story office building | Part of the combined 419,441-square-foot total | Included in the approximately $240 million total | Earlier reporting listed an estimated completion date of March 30, 2025 |
The combined figure and building descriptions come from January 2023 reporting. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s AC09 project record identifies that building’s $120 million estimated cost, 203,941-square-foot area and later estimated completion date.

Subtracting AC09’s reported area from the combined total suggests AC07 is approximately 215,500 square feet. That is a calculation, not a separately verified AC07 specification.
How it fits into Apple’s larger Austin plan
Apple announced the North Austin campus in December 2018 as a planned $1 billion investment on 133 acres. The initial plan called for space for 5,000 additional employees, with capacity to grow to 15,000 over time. Apple said the campus would support engineering, research and development, operations, finance, sales and customer-support functions.
When Apple announced the groundbreaking in November 2019, it described a planned campus of approximately 3 million square feet. More than 60% of the property was expected to be landscaped, including a 50-acre nature and wildlife preserve.

Those figures describe the broader campus plan. They should not be added to, or substituted for, the later $240 million Phase Two estimate. Apple’s original announcements are available from 2018 and 2019.
Where the buildings are located
The Phase Two work is associated with 6900 W. Parmer Lane, Austin, Texas 78729, in North Austin. This is Apple’s newer Austin campus, separate from the company’s older local facilities. Apple originally said the new campus would be less than a mile from its existing Austin operations.
Calling it Apple’s “Austin headquarters” can be misleading. The cited announcements describe an expansion and second campus, not a relocation of Apple’s corporate headquarters from Cupertino.

Construction timeline and current status
- December 13, 2018: Apple announces a $1 billion, 133-acre North Austin campus.
- November 20, 2019: Apple announces that construction has begun and describes the planned 3-million-square-foot campus.
- 2022: The first phase was expected to open, and Apple subsequently described completed campus buildings.
- January 2023: Reports identify the approximately $240 million Phase Two projects, AC07 and AC09.
- September 30, 2023: TDLR’s AC09 record lists this as the construction start date.
- August 2025: Apple says construction is continuing. It reports three completed office buildings totaling more than 1 million square feet and three additional buildings under construction.
- September 30, 2026: TDLR lists this as AC09’s estimated completion date.
The March 30, 2025 completion date reported for the Phase Two buildings was an earlier estimate, not a confirmed completion date. Apple’s later August 2025 update showed that broader campus construction was still underway. Based on the cited evidence available through August 16, 2026, the safest description is that the $240 million Phase Two program remained under construction or in its final stages; completion of every element has not been definitively confirmed.

What Apple’s Austin teams will do
Apple’s public materials describe the campus as a mixed corporate, engineering and research-and-development site. The work includes engineering, hardware technology, software engineering, operations, finance, sales and customer support.
Apple’s August 2025 update specifically mentions a new research-and-development laboratory for hardware engineering, hardware technology and software engineering. The available sources do not assign particular teams to AC07 or AC09 individually, so those buildings should not be described as dedicated to a specific product group without additional building-specific confirmation.

Jobs: planned capacity is not confirmed hiring
Apple said Austin had approximately 6,200 employees in December 2018 and approximately 7,000 in November 2019. The original campus plan was designed to accommodate 5,000 additional employees initially and eventually as many as 15,000 people.
In August 2025, Apple said it had more than 13,000 team members across Texas, with thousands already working in the three completed Austin office buildings.
None of those figures proves that AC07 and AC09 will add a particular number of jobs. A building’s square footage cannot reliably be converted into headcount because occupancy depends on workspace design, laboratories, shared facilities, hybrid work policies and other factors.

It is not the Mac Pro factory investment
Apple’s North Austin office campus should also be distinguished from its nearby manufacturing operation. In 2019, Apple said it and its manufacturing partners had invested more than $200 million in the Mac Pro production facility, a separate 244,000-square-foot site employing more than 500 people.
That manufacturing investment is not the same as the approximately $240 million Phase Two office-campus estimate. The Phase Two projects are described primarily as office and research space, not as an expansion of Mac Pro production capacity.
Environmental and community commitments
Apple’s campus-level plans included several environmental and site-design commitments:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Using 100% renewable energy for the campus.
- Preserving 50 acres of open space.
- Landscaping more than 60% of the property.
- Preserving and increasing the diversity of native Texas trees.
- Creating a public nature and wildlife preserve.
These are commitments Apple described for the broader campus. The cited sources do not independently establish that each Phase Two building has a separate environmental certification or identical performance specifications.
What the $240 million does—and does not—mean
| Statement | Accurate interpretation |
|---|---|
| “Apple is spending $240 million in Austin.” | The figure was reported in 2023 as the combined estimated value of two Phase Two construction projects. |
| “The campus costs $240 million.” | Incorrect. Apple’s original North Austin campus plan was announced as a $1 billion investment. |
| “The expansion creates 5,000 jobs.” | Too broad. The 5,000 figure refers to the broader campus plan’s initial additional-employee capacity. |
| “Apple will employ 15,000 people there.” | Not confirmed. The campus was planned with capacity to grow to 15,000 employees. |
| “The project finished in March 2025.” | That was an earlier estimate. Later evidence showed construction was still continuing. |
| “The $240 million is a government subsidy.” | Not established. The TDLR record for AC09 describes that project as privately funded on private land for private use. |
The TDLR filing for AC09 should not be used to characterize every Apple project or every historical Austin incentive agreement. It provides project-specific information for that filing.
