Apple lists sales-tax holidays in 10 states for 2026, not nine. As of August 18, Florida is the only listed state whose holiday is still running, and it ends August 20. The dates, eligible products and spending limits differ by state, so this is not a nationwide Apple sale. The earlier nine-state list described 2025.
2026 Apple tax-holiday states and eligibility at a glance
Apple’s page is a consumer summary; each state’s revenue department sets the controlling rules. The table reflects Apple’s published 2026 summary. Follow the linked state guidance for details such as transaction timing, local taxes and qualifying purchases.

Which Apple tax holidays are still open?
Florida’s period runs through August 20, 2026. The other nine periods in Apple’s 2026 list have ended. A prior AppleInsider article referred to nine states in 2025, when the list included Ohio; Ohio does not appear on Apple’s 2026 list, which adds Florida and Missouri. AppleInsider’s 2025 list.

Which states fit different Apple purchases?
- iPhone or Vision Pro: Arkansas is the broadest fit in Apple’s list for these products. Vision Pro is also listed in South Carolina.
- Broad computer and accessory shopping: Florida lists a wide range of products, subject to its $1,500 limit. Its holiday is the only one still active on August 18.
- Higher-priced individual items: Massachusetts allows qualifying items up to $2,500 each; the cap is not a combined basket limit.
- Narrow categories: Virginia’s listed Apple eligibility is limited to chargers and batteries at $60 or less, while West Virginia’s is limited to qualifying iPads at $500 or less.
What can make an Apple purchase taxable?
- Buying outside the holiday window: A qualifying product bought outside the state’s dates does not become exempt just because it is eligible by category. For orders close to a deadline, check the state’s rules on when a purchase is considered made; do not assume placing an order guarantees eligibility if processing, pickup, delivery or invoicing falls outside the period.
- Exceeding a threshold: Limits can apply per item, to a combined computer-and-accessory purchase, or to the total value of exempt items. Massachusetts states that an item above its per-item limit is fully taxable, not merely taxable on the amount above the cap.
- Buying an accessory on its own: In Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee, accessory exemptions can depend on buying the accessory with a computer or CPU. Other states impose their own category and use restrictions.
- Using the product for business or resale: Several summaries specify personal or individual use. Businesses, institutions and resellers should not assume a consumer holiday applies. Apple’s process for tax-exempt organizations is separate from a state holiday.
- Assuming all taxes disappear: The exemption is governed by state rules; local tax may still apply, as Apple specifically notes for Alabama.
How to check out through Apple
- Confirm the state for the order. Apple says online purchases are taxed based on the shipping address, while pickup orders are associated with the store where the item is collected. See Apple’s payment and tax guidance.
- Check the state’s official terms linked in the table for dates, product definitions, price rules and any bundling or personal-use requirements.
- Choose eligible delivery or pickup in the participating state and place the purchase within the applicable holiday period.
- Review the final receipt. Apple says the tax saving may not appear at checkout and should appear on the final receipt. Keep that receipt and contact Apple if the expected treatment is missing.
Tax holidays are separate from Apple discounts
A sales-tax holiday changes tax treatment under state law; it is not a nationwide reduction in Apple’s sticker price. Eligible buyers can also compare education pricing, trade-in value and payment-card rewards, but those are separate offers with separate eligibility and terms. Do not assume a holiday combines with an education promotion unless the current terms say so.
- Apple Education Store: education pricing and any current promotion are limited to eligible buyers and qualifying products.
- Apple Trade In: eligible devices may receive credit toward a purchase; value depends on the device and its condition.
- Apple Card: Apple advertises Daily Cash and installment options, subject to approval and terms. Compare rewards with other payment methods, and do not treat financing as a discount.
Check the product’s eligibility, state rules and other offer terms independently before placing an order.
