Apple financing is not one universal payment plan. In the U.S., buyers may be able to use Apple Card Monthly Installments, carrier financing, Apple Upgrade leasing, or a checkout pay-later provider. In India, eligible Apple purchases may qualify for issuer-run EMI or No Cost EMI. The available route—and its total cost—depends on your country, product, checkout choice, credit approval, card issuer, and carrier terms.
Before choosing, compare the full amount you will pay, any charges outside the advertised installment, the repayment term, eligibility rules, and whether you will own the device or lease it.
Which Apple financing options are available?
Apple’s U.S. financing page lists several ways to spread payments, but they are not interchangeable. These are the options documented for the U.S. and India; they are not a complete map of financing in every country. Check the payment methods and live terms at your local Apple checkout.
| Option | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) | Eligible U.S. purchases can be split into installments at 0% APR when ACMI is selected at checkout. | Approval, available credit, repayment term, and separately billed taxes and shipping. Apple U.S. financing; Apple Support ACMI terms. |
| Carrier financing or offers | Apple advertises some U.S. iPhone purchases over 36 months at 0% APR on a regular carrier bill, with possible carrier-specific credits. | Carrier service and offer conditions, monthly bill, trade-in requirements, and whether you qualify for the advertised credit. Apple U.S. financing. |
| Apple Upgrade | A U.S. consumer lease provided by Klarna, with term and end-of-lease choices set by the agreement. | Lease term, eligibility, return or other end-of-term obligations, and early-exit fees. Apple’s Apple Upgrade announcement. |
| Checkout pay-later provider | Apple’s U.S. page names Affirm and Klarna as options for customers shopping with iPhone or iPad through Apple Pay checkout. | The provider’s specific offer, repayment schedule, cost, and eligibility; Apple does not establish one universal offer. Apple U.S. financing. |
| India EMI or No Cost EMI | Eligible Apple Store Online and retail purchases may use an eligible card issuer’s financing, subject to product, card, order value, and offer rules. | Issuer approval, interest treatment, fees, minimum spend, and current offer conditions. Apple India financing terms; Apple India shopping help. |
Apple also displays illustrative monthly amounts on its U.S. financing page, such as an iPhone starting at $699 or $29.12 per month for 24 months, and a Mac starting at $699 or $58.25 per month for 12 months. These are page examples, not a quote for your purchase; final price and installment eligibility depend on the selected product and checkout terms.

How does Apple Card Monthly Installments work?
ACMI is a U.S. option for eligible Apple purchases, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, and selected accessories. You must choose ACMI at checkout and receive approval with enough available Apple Card credit. Apple says the financed amount uses available credit and the installments are included in the Apple Card minimum payment.
The advertised 0% APR applies to the eligible installment purchase, not necessarily every cost associated with the order. Apple says taxes and shipping are billed to Apple Card separately and are subject to the card’s variable APR. Apple Support listed a 17.74%–27.99% variable APR range for new Apple Card accounts effective October 1, 2026; existing cardholders should check their own rate. Paying once with Apple Card instead of selecting ACMI subjects the purchase to the card’s standard purchase APR.

Can you finance an iPhone without Apple Card?
In the U.S., the documented alternatives include carrier financing, Apple Upgrade leasing, and pay-later offers shown through Apple Pay checkout. Their terms are not substitutes for a guaranteed Apple installment: carrier offers can have service and trade-in conditions, a lease does not work like a purchase loan, and a pay-later provider sets its own offer and repayment terms.

Carrier installments and credits
Apple currently advertises some iPhone purchases split across 36 months at 0% APR on the regular carrier bill. Its financing page shows example maximum credits of up to $1,200 with AT&T or T-Mobile and up to $840 with Verizon. These are offer-dependent figures, not guaranteed discounts; eligibility and carrier terms determine what a buyer actually receives.
Apple Trade In may also lower the amount paid or financed. In a September 2026 announcement, Apple gave a dated example of $175–$885 in credit for eligible iPhone 13-or-higher trade-ins, applicable to Apple Upgrade, ACMI, or carrier offers. The amount depends on eligibility and device assessment, so use the quote provided for your device rather than treating the range as assured value.

Pay-later at Apple Pay checkout
Apple’s U.S. page says customers shopping with iPhone or iPad can select “Other Cards & Pay Later Options” at Apple Pay checkout to see options such as Affirm or Klarna. The offer shown to an individual buyer governs the rate, schedule, fees, and eligibility; Apple’s page does not establish a fixed set of terms for every customer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Apple Upgrade a lease or a loan?
Apple Upgrade is a consumer lease provided by Klarna, not an installment purchase loan. Apple describes 12-, 24-, or 36-month terms, although some terms may not be available for some models. Eligibility depends on creditworthiness, and the lease agreement controls the customer’s payment and end-of-term obligations.

Compare the lease payment with the cost of buying and keeping the same device. Then read the live agreement for available end-of-term choices and the consequences of ending the lease early: Apple’s launch announcement warns that early termination can involve substantial fees. A low monthly payment alone does not show whether leasing is cheaper over the period you intend to use the device.
Does Apple offer EMI outside the U.S.?
Apple’s India terms provide one concrete example of a different structure. EMI and No Cost EMI may be available for eligible Apple Store Online and retail transactions, depending on the product, eligible card, minimum order value, issuer rules, and an active Apple offer. Eligible options appear automatically at checkout for qualifying products and cards.
The customer repays principal and applicable interest to the eligible card issuer. For No Cost EMI, Apple says it discounts an amount equivalent to interest from the transaction value, while the issuer remains responsible for the financing arrangement; issuers may still charge fees. Apple says customers must be at least 18. Its India terms make clear that Apple is not involved in approval, pricing, or other matters incidental to providing EMI financing. These India-specific terms should not be assumed to apply in other countries.
Quick Recap
How to compare the real cost before you commit
- Choose the exact product and checkout route. Financing eligibility and installment examples can vary by product and by whether you shop online, in retail, or through a carrier.
- Write down the full amount due. Add the device price, taxes, shipping, fees, and any amount not included in the installment. For ACMI, Apple specifically says taxes and shipping are billed separately at the card’s variable APR.
- Check the term and the total paid over it. Multiply the required installment by the number of payments, then add separate charges and any applicable fees. Do not compare only the monthly figure.
- Confirm who approves and sets the terms. ACMI depends on Apple Card approval and credit limit; carrier deals depend on their offer conditions; a pay-later provider sets its offer; India EMI is controlled by the eligible issuer.
- Identify whether you will own the device. A purchase installment and a lease have different end points. With Apple Upgrade, read the agreement for return, purchase, upgrade, and early-termination terms before signing.
- Get a trade-in quote only after checking eligibility. A stated maximum or range is not a guaranteed credit. Confirm the assessed value and how it will be applied to the selected financing route.
- Save the terms shown at checkout. APRs, carrier credits, eligible products, issuer offers, and lease terms can change. The final offer and agreement—not a general example—determine your obligation.
