Could applicants use AI to apply to Anthropic?
In a February 4, 2025 report, BGR said an AI-use question appeared in applications for “nearly every open position” at Anthropic at that time. The reported notice came before a question about why the applicant wanted to work at the company and a potential cover letter. For someone applying today, the careful answer is that this was a reported 2025 instruction, not a current policy verified here. Check the instructions on the specific application before submitting. If it asks you not to use AI, follow that direction for the application materials it covers.

Why did Anthropic reportedly ask applicants not to use AI?
The wording attributed to Anthropic gave two reasons: to understand an applicant’s personal interest in the company without AI mediation, and to assess communication skills without AI assistance. In other words, the restriction was presented as a way to evaluate the applicant’s own motivation and writing, rather than as a blanket rejection of AI.
Did the reported restriction apply to work after hiring?
No: the same quoted wording encouraged people to use AI systems “during their role” to work faster and more effectively, while asking them not to use AI assistants during the application process. The distinction was about the stage and purpose of use: unaided application responses for evaluation, versus AI use in the job. It should not be generalized into a claim about Anthropic’s current employee rules or every step in its hiring process.

The account described here is dated February 2025. The sources available for this article do not confirm whether Anthropic still includes the wording in applications in October 2026, which roles it covers today, or whether it applies to additional hiring stages.
