Re:

Anker recalled more than 1 million PowerCore 10000 power banks—five replacement options

The million-unit Anker recall involved PowerCore 10000 model A1263—not every Anker power bank. Here’s how to check your serial number, handle a recalled unit, and compare five replacement options.

If you own an Anker PowerCore 10000, check it before using it again. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a June 12, 2025 recall of approximately 1,158,000 Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks, model A1263, because their lithium-ion batteries could overheat and create fire and burn hazards. The affected units were sold from June 2016 through December 2022.

This was not a recall of every Anker power bank. Check the model and serial number, follow Anker’s remedy instructions, and dispose of any recalled unit through an appropriate lithium-ion battery channel. If you need a replacement, the five candidates below cover laptop charging, everyday phone use, outdoor portability, and magnetic charging.

The short answer

The “more than 1 million” headline refers primarily to the U.S. recall of Anker PowerCore 10000 model A1263. About 1,158,000 units were involved. They were sold through Anker, Amazon, Newegg, and eBay for approximately $27.

If your unit is model A1263:

  1. Stop using it immediately. Do not charge it or use it until the recall check is complete.
  2. Turn it over and locate the serial number.
  3. Enter the serial number on Anker’s current recall page.
  4. Follow Anker’s instructions for the available replacement remedy and disposal.

The model number alone may not establish whether your particular power bank is included, so do not skip the serial-number check.

How to identify a recalled Anker power bank

Look on the back or side of the device for the model number. The June 2025 recall covers A1263, sold between June 2016 and December 2022. If the model matches, record the serial number and verify it through Anker’s recall system.

Do not stop checking if your power bank is not A1263. Anker’s recall history also includes:

Model Recall context
A1263 PowerCore 10000; approximately 1.158 million U.S. units recalled in June 2025
A1366 Anker 535 Power Bank, PowerCore 20K; recalled in 2023
A1642, A1647, A1652 Covered by earlier and later recall actions
A1257, A1681, A1689 Included in Anker’s later five-model recall action

Check Anker’s recall index and the relevant CPSC notice. Anker described the later five-model action as a global voluntary recall, so affected models, remedies, and procedures can differ outside the United States.

What to do if your power bank is recalled

  • Stop using it: Do not keep using it until it is empty, charge it, connect it to a phone, or test it “one last time.”
  • Store it cautiously: Keep it away from heat, sunlight, flammable materials, children, and pets. Do not puncture, crush, open, or disassemble it.
  • Use the correct remedy: The CPSC notice for A1263 describes a replacement process. The later five-model recall describes a full cash refund or Anker gift card. These are separate recall actions, so follow the instructions for your exact model.
  • Dispose of it properly: Do not put a recalled lithium-ion power bank in household trash, curbside recycling, or a general battery-recycling box unless the facility specifically accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. Contact your municipal household-hazardous-waste authority or Anker for handling instructions.

For the later five-model recall, Anker’s process requires a photograph showing the power bank, model number, serial number, your name, the photograph date, and the word “recalled” written on the device in permanent marker. Do not assume that requirement applies to A1263; use the current instructions for your model.

If the battery is swollen, hot, smoking, or damaged

Do not handle it unnecessarily, charge it, puncture it, or transport it casually. Move people away from immediate danger and contact local emergency services if it is smoking or on fire. Ask local hazardous-waste officials how to handle a damaged battery before moving it.

Five replacement power banks to consider

These are alternatives to investigate, not products proven to be categorically safer than Anker. Before buying, verify the exact model’s current recall status, specifications, warranty, certification claims, availability, and price on the manufacturer’s site.

1. UGREEN Nexode 20,000mAh, 100W — best for laptops and travel

UGREEN lists this model with a 20,000mAh capacity and output of up to 100W. That makes it a better fit for USB-C laptops, tablets, phones, and multi-device travel than a basic phone-only bank.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The trade-off is size and weight: 100W is unnecessary for most phones. UGREEN’s U.S. store showed a $52.99 promotional price, reduced from $79.99, in the supplied pricing snapshot; prices change. See the official product page.

2. UGREEN Nexode 20,000mAh, 130W — best for several USB-C devices

This higher-output model is listed at 20,000mAh, 72Wh, and up to 130W, with a display. It suits users carrying a laptop, tablet, and phone, but it is more power than most phone owners need and will cost more and weigh more than a compact bank.

The supplied UGREEN pricing snapshot showed $59.98 versus a listed $89.99 price. Verify the exact model, port-sharing behavior, weight, warranty, and current price at UGREEN’s power-bank catalog.

(Note: For iPhone 14 series and earlier, please use your own Lightning cable and connect it via the USB-A or USB-C port.)
  • 30W Bi-Directional Charging: Enjoy two-way fast charging, a feature found in many Anker power banks, with up to 30W output and 20W input. (Note: Compatible with iPhone 15 Series, MacBook, Galaxy, iPad, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and more.)

3. Belkin BoostCharge — best for mainstream phone accessories

“Belkin BoostCharge” covers multiple wired and magnetic power banks rather than one product. It may suit buyers who want broad retail availability, a familiar accessories brand, or magnetic charging for a compatible phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose a specific model before comparing it. Confirm its capacity, USB-C output, dimensions, warranty, magnetic or Qi2 compatibility, and recall status through Belkin’s power-bank catalog. Magnetic models are generally less useful for laptops and can cost more per watt-hour.

4. BioLite Charge 100 PD — best for outdoor-oriented users

The BioLite Charge 100 PD is a candidate for hikers, campers, and emergency kits who want a travel-oriented USB-C power bank. It may not match a 100W laptop bank for output or port count, so confirm the current capacity, USB-C output, weight, warranty, price, and stock on BioLite’s official product page.

5. Nitecore NB10000 Gen 3 — best for lightweight carry

A 10,000mAh Nitecore NB10000 Gen 3 is aimed at users who value low weight and compact size, including hikers, runners, and commuters. It is not the natural choice for laptop charging or extended multi-device use.

Check the exact current product page for capacity, output, ports, charging time, weight, warranty, price, and recall status through Nitecore’s official store.

Do not treat “alternative” as a safety certification. In particular, avoid recommending the recalled INIU BI-B41; the CPSC announced a December 2025 recall of approximately 210,000 units for overheating and fire hazards.

How to choose the right replacement

Your priority Look for Main compromise
Emergency phone backup 5,000mAh–10,000mAh Fewer total charges
Everyday phone carry 10,000mAh and 20W–30W USB-C output Usually not suitable for laptops
Family travel 20,000mAh and multiple ports More weight and slower recharging
Laptop charging 20,000mAh or more and USB-C PD at 65W–100W+ Greater size, weight, and cost
Hiking or running Lightweight 10,000mAh model Lower output and fewer ports
Magnetic phone charging Magnetic or Qi2-compatible bank plus USB-C Wireless charging can lose efficiency and create heat

Capacity is not the same as delivered charge

Advertised milliamp-hours do not translate directly into phone charges. Voltage conversion, heat, cable quality, and the phone’s charging behavior reduce usable energy. Compare watt-hours, output, recharge time, weight, ports, and warranty rather than mAh alone.

Match the output to your device

About 18W–30W is adequate for many phones. Tablets and lightweight laptops may benefit from 45W–67W, while USB-C laptops can require 100W or more. A 100W or 130W label does not mean every device will charge at that rate: the device, cable, charging protocol, port, and simultaneous use of other ports determine the actual speed.

Check safety claims carefully

UL 2056 is a dedicated safety standard for standalone power banks with DC input and output up to 100Wh. Do not call a product UL 2056 certified unless the manufacturer or certification database confirms that certification for the exact model. Marketing terms such as “military grade” or “fireproof” are not substitutes for identifiable testing and support documentation. See UL 2056’s scope and UL’s power-bank testing information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider airline rules separately

UL 2056’s 100Wh scope is not an airline permission rule. Check the current policy of the airline and relevant transportation authority before flying, especially with high-capacity banks. Keep the watt-hour rating visible and do not rely on an mAh number alone.

Everyday power-bank safety

  • Do not use a bank that is swollen, cracked, leaking, unusually hot, smoking, or producing a chemical odor.
  • Keep it out of hot vehicles, direct sunlight, rain, and fire.
  • Use the manufacturer-recommended charger and cable where possible.
  • Do not disassemble, modify, puncture, or overload it.
  • Buy from the manufacturer or an established retailer, and keep the model and serial information.
  • Check both the manufacturer’s recall page and the CPSC database before buying used or open-box hardware.
