American Express’s High Yield Savings Account was reported at 3.20% APY on April 21, 2026, according to a dated DepositAccounts.com rate-change entry, which listed no change that day. This is a third-party snapshot—not an official Amex rate history—and it does not establish the exact rate on April 1 or the nominal interest rate for every day of the month.
What was the Amex savings APY in April 2026?
DepositAccounts.com recorded the American Express High Yield Savings Account at 3.20% APY on April 21, 2026, with no change reported for the account on that date. The entry is a historical third-party record, not confirmation published by American Express. It supports the rate on that specific date, not a complete rate history for April.
American Express’s product page later stated that its advertised APY was accurate as of October 1, 2026. That later figure is not evidence of the April rate. Amex also says the account’s rate and APY may change at any time without notice.
Is the American Express savings rate fixed?
No. The HYSA has a variable rate, so its interest rate and APY can change after account opening. The April 21 APY is a dated snapshot, not a guarantee of future earnings or a rate that applied uniformly throughout April.

Amex describes its certificates of deposit (CDs) differently: a CD rate is fixed once the CD is funded. When weighing a variable-rate savings account against a fixed-term CD, consider how soon you may need the money, whether rate certainty matters, the CD term, and any early-withdrawal penalty.
What APY means—and how Amex credits interest
The interest rate is the annualized rate applied to the account’s principal each day. APY expresses the effect of compounding over a 365-day period, so it is the more useful figure for comparing deposit accounts when both rates are quoted on the same basis. For a variable-rate account, however, the APY can change over time.

Amex says interest compounds daily and is credited monthly. The APY therefore reflects compounding, while the amount actually earned also depends on the balance and the rate in effect over the time the money is in the account.
