Southwest A-List members can apply to match to American AAdvantage Gold, while A-List Preferred members can apply for AAdvantage Platinum. American’s offer starts with four months of status; keeping it beyond that requires meeting Loyalty Point goals in three additional four-month phases. The match is restricted, requires proof of current status, and may change or end without notice.
What Southwest status matches to on American
American’s current AAdvantage Instant Status Pass page lists these Southwest-to-American matches:
| Current Southwest status | American status offered |
|---|---|
| A-List | AAdvantage Gold |
| A-List Preferred | AAdvantage Platinum |
The chart identifies qualifying Southwest status with an expiration in December 2026 or December 2027. It does not list a Southwest match to AAdvantage Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum.
Who can apply—and what proof is required
Applicants must hold qualifying current status. American excludes status that was itself matched, transferred, granted for life, or received as a promotion. Existing AAdvantage members who already have equivalent or higher status are also ineligible. The names on the airline accounts must match.

For a Southwest application, American asks for screenshots of the Rapid Rewards account summary showing the applicant’s first and last name, A-List expiration date, and Rapid Rewards number. American says review may take at least four weeks. It can ask for more documentation, and fraudulent documents may result in account termination.
How long the match lasts and how to keep it
The initial Instant Status Pass period is four months. To continue status, members must meet a Loyalty Point goal in each of three subsequent four-month phases. Meeting all three goals qualifies a member to keep status through the remainder of the membership year. The specific goals and additional terms are provided in the member’s AAdvantage account after verification; check that account and the associated email rather than assuming a goal from another member’s offer.

American’s regular program structure is useful context, but it does not replace the promotion’s terms. Under the AAdvantage terms and conditions, qualification is based on Loyalty Points earned during the 12-month period beginning March 1, and status is generally valid through March 31 of the following full year. Instant Status Pass continuation has its own phase goals and account-specific rules.
How to decide whether to apply
A match is most useful if you expect to fly American and can make practical use of the offered tier while working toward the phase goals. Before planning travel around it, check the live offer and your verified account terms: American reserves the right to change, stop, or end the promotion, in whole or in part, at any time without notice. The offer page does not state that applying requires a purchase.

Southwest’s own status match is a separate offer
Southwest also describes a status-match promotion, but its terms should not be confused with American’s. Southwest’s 2026 Rapid Rewards Status Match page describes a 120-day promotional period, with status extension based on qualifying flights or tier-qualifying points. It lists registration through December 30, 2026 and allows up to 12 business days for processing. Those are Southwest’s terms, not the length, goals, or processing estimate for an American match.
