AMD’s Q1 2026 CPU Share Gains: Ryzen, EPYC and What the Numbers Show

AMD reported Q1 2026 client revenue growth and attributed it partly to Ryzen demand and share gains. Reported Mercury estimates put client unit share at 29.6% and server revenue share at 46.2%.

AMD reported Q1 2026 client CPU revenue of $2.9 billion, up 26% year over year, and said Ryzen demand and continued share gains primarily drove the result. Separately, a June 2026 report citing Mercury Research estimates put AMD at 29.6% of client CPU units and 46.2% of server CPU revenue for the quarter. Those percentages describe different markets and measures; AMD’s revenue growth is not itself a market-share statistic.

How much CPU market share did AMD have in Q1 2026?

The reported estimates were 29.6% of client CPU units and 46.2% of server CPU revenue. Tom’s Hardware reported both figures as Mercury Research estimates in June 2026. The detailed Q1 tables are not available in the cited public sources, so these are secondary-reported estimates rather than figures independently verified here from Mercury’s original report.

Segment Q1 2026 figure What it measures
Client CPUs 29.6% (Mercury Research estimate, as reported by Tom’s Hardware) Unit share: the proportion of client CPU units represented by AMD
Server CPUs 46.2% (Mercury Research estimate, as reported by Tom’s Hardware) Revenue share: AMD’s proportion of server CPU revenue, not unit share

Tom’s Hardware’s June 2026 report is the source for both estimates. Mercury describes its PC Processor report as covering quarterly shipment, pricing and revenue estimates and shares for desktop, notebook and server segments, but its public report description does not publish these Q1 figures.

What AMD’s earnings report says—and what it does not

Client revenue grew, but revenue is not market share

AMD’s May 5, 2026 earnings release reported $2.9 billion in Q1 client-business revenue, up 26% year over year. AMD said the performance was primarily driven by strong demand for Ryzen processors and continued market-share gains. This is the company’s account of its financial performance and attribution; it does not quantify client share or independently establish what caused the share movement.

  • Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
  • Cooler not included

Revenue can increase because of unit volume, prices, product mix, or a combination of factors. A revenue growth rate therefore cannot be read as a unit-share gain. Likewise, the 29.6% client estimate is a unit-share figure, not a revenue-growth figure. See AMD’s Q1 2026 financial release.

Ryzen and EPYC refer to different markets

Ryzen is AMD’s client processor line, relevant to the reported client business result. EPYC is AMD’s server CPU line. AMD’s earnings materials identify both product families, but they do not show that a particular Ryzen or EPYC model produced the estimated share results. The client and server figures also use different measures, so they should not be combined into one overall “AMD CPU share” number. AMD’s Q1 2026 earnings slides provide the company’s product and financial context.

How to interpret the reported gains

  • Keep the segment fixed: Client CPUs and server CPUs are separate markets. A server revenue share does not establish client leadership, or vice versa.
  • Keep the measure fixed: Compare unit share with unit share, or revenue share with revenue share. Revenue share can differ from unit share when product mix or average selling prices differ.
  • Keep the period comparison clear: AMD’s 26% revenue increase is year over year. The cited Q1 share percentages are levels for the quarter; the public figures cited here do not provide a matched prior-period share comparison with which to calculate the change.
  • Do not overstate the cause: AMD linked client performance to Ryzen demand and share gains, but the available figures do not break out the contribution of desktop versus notebook CPUs, pricing, availability, or OEM mix.

For readers assessing AMD as a business, the useful distinction is between company-reported financial results and market-share estimates. The earnings release provides AMD’s reported client revenue and explanation; the segment share percentages are Mercury Research estimates reported secondhand. They answer related but different questions.
