AMD’s first-quarter 2025 GAAP net income was $709 million, up 476% from $123 million a year earlier—so the headline’s “more than quadrupled” claim is accurate for that specific measure and period. The result was announced May 6, 2025; it is not AMD’s latest Q1 result. Revenue rose 36%, while non-GAAP net income increased 55%, a materially different picture from the GAAP comparison.
Did AMD’s profit really more than quadruple?
Yes, on a year-over-year GAAP basis. AMD reported $709 million in net income for Q1 2025, compared with $123 million in Q1 2024, a 476% increase. GAAP diluted earnings per share rose 529%, to $0.44 from $0.07. These figures are from AMD’s May 6, 2025 results release.

That large percentage gain needs context: the comparison starts from $123 million in prior-year profit. Operating income also rose sharply, from $36 million to $806 million, or 2,139%; when the starting value is small, a change can translate into an especially large percentage increase.

AMD’s non-GAAP net income was $1.566 billion in Q1 2025, up 55% from $1.013 billion in Q1 2024. Non-GAAP diluted EPS also increased 55%, from $0.62 to $0.96. The “more than quadrupled” description applies to GAAP net income, not non-GAAP net income.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
GAAP and non-GAAP figures are different measures. AMD presents non-GAAP results as supplemental information; they do not replace its GAAP results. For a clear comparison, keep the measure consistent: compare GAAP with GAAP or non-GAAP with non-GAAP.
How did revenue and business segments perform?
Total revenue reached $7.438 billion, up 36% year over year, and gross margin was 50%, compared with 47% a year earlier. Profit grew faster than revenue, but the reported figures alone do not establish one business line or factor as the sole cause of the net-income increase.

| Business area | Q1 2025 revenue | Year-over-year change | Reported context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Center | $3.7 billion | Up 57% | Growth primarily driven by EPYC CPU and Instinct GPU sales. |
| Client | $2.3 billion | Up 68% | Demand for Ryzen processors supported growth. |
| Gaming | $647 million | Down 30% | Semi-custom revenue declined. |
| Embedded | $823 million | Down 3% | Revenue decreased year over year. |
AMD grouped Client and Gaming revenue at $2.9 billion, up 28%. The contrasting segment results show why company-wide growth should not be read as uniform growth across every business.
Was profit up from the previous quarter too?
Compared with Q4 2024, GAAP net income increased 47%, from $482 million to $709 million. Revenue moved in the opposite direction, falling 3% from $7.658 billion. This is a quarter-over-quarter comparison; the 476% headline figure compares Q1 2025 with Q1 2024.

Is this still AMD’s latest first-quarter result?
No. AMD’s Q1 2026 results, announced in 2026, reported GAAP net income of $1.383 billion, up 95% from $709 million in Q1 2025. Non-GAAP net income was $2.265 billion, up 45%, and revenue was $10.253 billion, up 38%. Accordingly, the quadrupling claim describes the Q1 2025 year-over-year comparison, not the subsequent Q1 2026 result. See AMD’s Q1 2026 results release.
