AMD traded near $656, up 4%, and set a reported intraday record just above $658 on October 6, 2026, after Citi raised its price target to $800 from $575. Citi’s case is that personal AI agents such as Meta Muse could sharply increase demand for computing—and for server CPUs in particular. That is an analyst forecast, not evidence that Muse has already generated new AMD sales.
Why did AMD stock hit a fresh high?
A Yahoo Finance market report on October 6, 2026, said AMD was trading around $656, up 4%, and had reached an intraday record just above $658. Those were intraday observations, not the closing price. The report connected the rally to Citi’s higher AMD price target and its argument that AI agents could lift demand for AMD chips. Yahoo Finance
Market prices move throughout the session, and an intraday record does not establish where a stock finished the day. The reported move also does not mean the price target is a guaranteed outcome.
What did Citi change about its AMD price target?
On October 6, 2026, Citi analyst Atif Malik raised his reported AMD price target to $800 from $575. A price target is an analyst’s estimate, not a promised share price or a measure of what AMD is certain to earn. Citi’s reasoning, as reported that day, centered on the possibility that agentic AI will create much greater compute demand and make AMD a primary beneficiary of stronger CPU demand. Yahoo Finance

How could Meta Muse help AMD?
Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent. Citi’s argument is that agents may handle more complex, ongoing tasks than traditional chatbots, increasing the computing resources required to serve them. Malik said Citi viewed agentic AI as a potential “orders-of-magnitude driver of compute demand relative to traditional chatbots.” The key word is potential: this is Citi’s forecast about what wider agent use could mean, not a measured result.
More computing demand could benefit AMD if it translates into purchases of the company’s processors and accelerators. Malik specifically highlighted server CPUs and Meta’s importance as an AMD server customer. The connection is an investment thesis: greater agent use could require more computing infrastructure, and AMD could win some of that demand. It does not establish that Muse itself has caused additional orders.

What does Citi forecast for the CPU market?
Citi estimated that the CPU total addressable market could grow from $29 billion in 2025 to $300 billion in 2030 — Citi, 2026. This is Citi’s model estimate as reported on October 6, 2026, not an independently validated industry statistic or a guarantee that the market will reach that size. The estimate frames the scale of the opportunity Citi sees; it does not specify how much of that market AMD would capture.
What has AMD confirmed about its relationship with Meta?
AMD’s February 24, 2026 Form 8-K describes a multi-year, multi-generation infrastructure collaboration with Meta. It covers AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems. AMD said shipments supporting the first gigawatt deployment were scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. The filing also disclosed a performance-based warrant for Meta of up to 160 million AMD shares, tied to milestones. AMD Form 8-K, February 24, 2026

- Can deliver fast 100 plus FPS performance in the world's most popular games, discrete graphics card required
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, bundled with the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
- 4.2 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 19 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
- For the advanced Socket AM4 platform
The filing confirms a broad strategic relationship and a planned deployment. It does not say that Muse drove the collaboration, and a scheduled shipment start is not proof that shipments occurred on schedule. The available reports and filing do not establish a specific amount of incremental AMD revenue or orders attributable to Muse.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the AI-agent CPU thesis confirmed or a forecast?
It is a forecast. The evidence supports two separate points: AMD disclosed a substantial planned infrastructure collaboration with Meta, and Citi argued that AI agents could expand compute and CPU demand in ways that benefit AMD. It does not connect Muse to a measured increase in AMD sales. For investors, that distinction matters: the commercial relationship is documented, while the claimed demand boost and AMD’s share of it remain uncertain.
