There is no universal winner between AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS. The right choice depends on the game, your graphics card, and which feature you mean: upscaling, frame generation, or ray reconstruction. The official materials available here describe different technologies and support conditions, but do not establish a controlled, across-the-board image-quality or performance winner.
What are you comparing: upscaling, frame generation, or ray reconstruction?
“FSR versus DLSS” is not one setting against one setting. NVIDIA groups several features under DLSS: Super Resolution upscales a rendered image, Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation create additional displayed frames, and Ray Reconstruction is a separate feature for ray-traced effects. AMD FSR is also versioned, and support can differ by game and implementation.

Compare like with like. An upscaler comparison should not be treated as a frame-generation comparison, and neither tells you whether ray reconstruction is available or performs well in a particular title.
Which looks better or runs faster?
The official sources cited here do not provide a matched FSR-versus-DLSS test, so they cannot establish a universal image-quality or performance winner. Vendor feature descriptions and support announcements are not substitutes for testing both options under the same conditions.

For a useful comparison in a game you play, hold the conditions steady:
- Use the same game version, graphics card, output resolution, and comparable quality preset.
- Compare the same type of feature, and record the feature and driver versions.
- For upscaling, include native rendering as a baseline and inspect image detail and stability while moving.
- For frame generation, note the native frame rate before generation and assess responsiveness as well as the displayed frame rate. Keep generated-frame results separate from rendered-frame throughput.
These checks help make a comparison meaningful; they are not a claim that one technology wins under every configuration.

How do GPU and game support differ?
Support depends on the specific feature, GPU, game, and software version. AMD says FSR 1 and FSR 2 are available in selected games and require developer integration. Its Gaming Details page also describes support as game dependent.

For NVIDIA, a March 10, 2026 announcement said DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution was available to GeForce RTX gamers through the NVIDIA app. The announcement tied Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and 6X Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series gamers and specified GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL or newer for the announced new features. These are dated availability details, not a guarantee that every DLSS feature is supported in every game or on every RTX card.
What do the game-support lists actually tell you?
Game support is title-specific, and a feature announcement does not mean the feature is enabled in every game. AMD’s Adrenalin 25.6.3 optional update notes listed Monster Hunter Wilds and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced as FSR 4 support additions. The notes also identified named games where FSR 4 was not enabled on RX 9000 products and reported a possible texture-flicker or corruption issue with FSR enabled in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on RX 9070 XT.

NVIDIA’s March 2026 announcement named titles including 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant, INDUSTRIA 2, War Thunder, and Where Winds Meet in connection with announced DLSS features or upgrades. Availability can change with game updates, so verify the exact feature in the game you intend to play.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIn a May 31, 2026 announcement, NVIDIA reported over 1,000 RTX games and applications. That is NVIDIA’s own catalog figure, not an independently audited count in the cited material. The reviewed AMD materials do not give a directly comparable current FSR game-count figure; different dates and counting methods would make a simple comparison misleading.

How to choose for your games
- Start with the titles you play. Check each game’s settings or current developer and vendor support information for the exact FSR or DLSS version and feature.
- Confirm your GPU and driver. Eligibility can vary by generation and feature. Compare the installed driver requirement with current official compatibility information.
- Decide what you want to improve. If you want an upscaled image, compare upscalers. If you want generated frames, separately consider baseline frame rate and responsiveness. Treat ray reconstruction as its own comparison.
- Try the options under comparable settings. Use the same resolution and comparable quality presets, then judge image stability and detail in motion alongside performance.
If the game or feature is not supported on your hardware, its theoretical quality is beside the point. A feature that works in the games you actually play may matter more than a vendor’s overall catalog count.
