Is $479 still available?
The supplied deal report confirms the $479 price on December 24, 2025, but does not establish that the offer remains active in August 2026. Amazon prices can change quickly, and the original report does not establish whether the listing was sold directly by Amazon or by a marketplace seller.
Before ordering, confirm all of the following on the live listing:
- The price is actually $479 or close to it at checkout.
- The model is new—not renewed, refurbished, used, or open-box.
- The memory and storage read 16GB/256GB.
- The “sold by” and “shipped by” information are acceptable to you.
- The return policy and Apple warranty eligibility are clearly stated.
- Any coupon, Prime requirement, shipping charge, or other condition is included in your calculation.
Do not describe the deal as an all-time low without independent price-history evidence. The original coverage said it nearly matched such a low, but that claim is not independently established here.

Why the base Mac mini is appealing
For shoppers who already own a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, the Mac mini provides a relatively inexpensive entry into macOS without paying for a laptop screen, battery, keyboard, trackpad, or chassis. The M4 platform also offers Apple’s current desktop silicon, 16GB of memory, and a compact, low-power design.
It can make sense as a home computer, office system, coding machine, streaming and media workstation, or light creative computer. Apple’s product information is available on the Mac mini product page. Those specifications do not, by themselves, establish independent benchmark leadership, so buyers should treat performance claims accordingly.
The biggest catch is the 256GB SSD
Memory and storage are different. The 16GB of unified memory is useful for everyday multitasking, but 256GB of storage can fill quickly once macOS, applications, photos, games, video files, and development tools are installed.

Internal storage and memory should be treated as purchase-time decisions rather than simple user upgrades. External USB-C, Thunderbolt, or network storage can add capacity, but it costs extra and may add desk clutter or performance trade-offs.
The base model is most suitable for cloud-storage users, office work, browsing, streaming, and modest local-file needs. If you plan to keep the computer for several years, the 512GB version is a more comfortable choice for many buyers.

Remember the real setup cost
The Mac mini is not a complete computer setup for $479. It does not include a display or standard input devices. Depending on what you already own, your budget may also need to cover:
- Monitor
- Keyboard and mouse or trackpad
- Webcam
- External SSD
- USB-C or Thunderbolt dock
- Ethernet cable
Sales tax and shipping also vary by location. If you need every accessory, compare the complete cost with a MacBook Air or a Windows desktop that includes more of the required hardware.

Who should buy it?
Buy the $479 model if:
- You already have a compatible monitor and peripherals.
- You want macOS at the lowest reasonable entry price.
- Your applications fit macOS and 256GB is sufficient—or you already have external storage.
- The live listing is new, properly warranted, and sold by a reputable seller.
Upgrade or skip it if:
- You store large photo, video, music, or game libraries locally.
- You expect to keep the computer for many years and want more storage headroom.
- You need Windows-only software, specialized enterprise tools, or specific peripherals that may not work with macOS.
- You need portability, an integrated display, a camera, a battery, or built-in input devices.
- The listing is refurbished, renewed, used, or sold by an unfamiliar seller without clear warranty coverage.
Gaming support on Mac has improved, but game availability, compatibility layers, and performance requirements vary. The Mac mini should not automatically be treated as a replacement for a gaming PC or console.

Alternatives worth considering
A larger-storage M4 Mac mini is the simplest upgrade if you want to avoid relying on external storage. Apple’s new Mac mini purchase page shows the available configurations and current pricing.
Apple Certified Refurbished can appeal to buyers who prioritize Apple-backed refurbishment and warranty coverage. A refurbished M4 Mac mini listing surfaced at $679 with a one-year limited warranty and 14-day returns, but that price must be rechecked before purchase. A MacBook Air may offer better total value if you need a screen and portability. A Windows mini-PC or complete desktop may be more practical for Windows-only applications, broader gaming support, or a setup that includes more accessories.
Bottom line
The reported $479 price was a genuine 20%-off opportunity for the M4 Mac mini’s 16GB/256GB configuration, but it is historical rather than currently confirmed. If the live price is still near $479 and you already own peripherals, it is a compelling low-cost macOS desktop. For most long-term users, however, paying more for 512GB storage—or budgeting for a reliable external SSD—will reduce the base model’s biggest limitation.
