The maximum discount applied only to the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro with 2TB of Wi‐Fi storage, which fell to $1,699 from $1,999. The same report listed the iPad mini (A17 Pro) from $399, the M2 iPad Air from $499, and other M4 iPad Pro configurations at lower prices.
Those prices remain useful historical benchmarks, but shoppers should verify the live listing, seller, condition, coupon, warranty, and return policy before buying. Apple’s comparison pages now show newer M5 iPad Pro and M4 iPad Air generations, making the age of any discounted M4 Pro or M2 Air especially important.

Apple’s official name for this 2024 model is iPad mini (A17 Pro). The reported Wi‐Fi prices were:

The mini has an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, an A17 Pro chip, USB‐C, and support for Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB‐C. It is the most portable choice for reading, travel, notes, navigation, and casual gaming, but its small screen is less comfortable for split-screen work or sustained keyboard use.

The M2 Air is the practical middle ground: faster and more versatile than the mini, less expensive than the Pro, and available with a useful 13-inch display. It supports Apple Pencil Pro, USB‐C, and Apple Intelligence features subject to Apple’s software, language, region, and device requirements.

It does not have the Pro’s tandem OLED display, ProMotion, or Thunderbolt/USB 4. In 2026, a small discount may not justify choosing the older M2 model over a newer M4 iPad Air, so compare the actual prices before purchasing.

The headline needs careful reading: the full $300 reduction was attached to the expensive 2TB 11-inch configuration, not the entry-level Pro. The 256GB 11-inch model received $150 off, while the 256GB 13-inch model received $200 off.

MacRumors also reported that an on-page Amazon coupon was required for at least some 11-inch Pro models. The final price could therefore differ from the initial product-page price unless the coupon was clipped. Coupon availability was part of the January 2025 snapshot and should not be assumed to remain active.
The M4 Pro offers the strongest hardware here: an Ultra Retina XDR tandem OLED display, ProMotion, Face ID, Thunderbolt/USB 4, and up to 2TB of storage. It makes the most sense for HDR video, photography, illustration, demanding creative applications, high-end gaming, or workflows that need fast external storage. For streaming, browsing, note-taking, and ordinary office work, the Air is usually the more economical choice.

Which iPad was the best value?
- Best price under $500: the 128GB iPad mini at the reported $399 price, if portability matters more than workspace.
- Best general-purpose value: the 11-inch 128GB M2 iPad Air at the reported $499 price. It offers a larger display and better multitasking than the mini.
- Best premium configuration: the 11-inch 256GB M4 iPad Pro at $849. It is a more sensible Pro purchase than paying for 2TB unless you genuinely need the storage.
- Largest dollar discount: the 11-inch 2TB M4 iPad Pro at $1,699. That is the headline deal, but its high price and unusually large storage capacity make it a niche choice.
How to choose between the three
Choose the iPad mini if portability is the priority
The mini is easiest to carry and well suited to reading, travel, handwritten notes, navigation, and casual games. Choose 128GB for a cloud-first setup; consider 256GB or 512GB for extensive offline media, games, or photo storage.

Choose the M2 iPad Air for balanced value
The Air is the better fit for documents, multitasking, drawing, schoolwork, and a lightweight laptop-style setup. The 13-inch version gives you more workspace, while the 11-inch model is easier to carry. It is the strongest value only if the older M2 model is meaningfully cheaper than the current-generation M4 Air.

Choose the M4 iPad Pro for display and professional features
Pay for the Pro when the OLED display, ProMotion, Thunderbolt/USB 4, Face ID, or higher-end graphics performance will materially improve your work. The 256GB or 512GB versions are more broadly sensible than 1TB or 2TB. Large capacities are easier to justify for professional video, large photo libraries, heavy creative projects, or extensive offline files.
What to check before buying an old deal listing
- Confirm the live price. The reported prices are from January 28, 2025, not verified August 2026 prices. Treat them as benchmarks.
- Check the seller and condition. On Amazon, review the “Sold by” and “Ships from” fields. Confirm that the device is new rather than renewed or refurbished, and review the return policy and warranty.
- Confirm the exact model. The reported tables primarily concern Wi‐Fi models. Cellular versions have different prices, inventory, activation requirements, and carrier compatibility.
- Apply any coupon. A displayed price may not include a coupon that must be clipped on the product page.
- Separate Amazon from Best Buy pricing. Best Buy matched many reported prices, but some offers required My Best Buy Plus or Total membership. The 1TB 11-inch Air was specifically identified at Best Buy rather than as an Amazon deal.
- Compare newer generations. Apple’s current comparison page lists M5 iPad Pro and M4 iPad Air models alongside the A17 Pro mini. An older model is worthwhile only when its lower price compensates for its age.
- Price the complete setup. Apple Pencil Pro, a keyboard, case, AppleCare+, and—on cellular models—service are separate costs. A discounted tablet may not be a cheap laptop replacement after accessories.

This was a strong historical iPad promotion, but “up to $300 off” described one high-storage M4 iPad Pro configuration rather than the entire range. The mini at $399 was the cheapest reported option, the 11-inch M2 Air at $499 was the strongest everyday-value candidate, and the 256GB M4 Pro at $849 was the more sensible premium choice for buyers who needed Pro features. In 2026, buy only after confirming that the live older-generation price is substantially below a comparable M4 Air or M5 Pro.
