If Amazon suspends your selling account over suspected stolen inventory, “I didn’t know” does not automatically resolve the allegation or guarantee reinstatement. Amazon’s US policy makes sellers responsible for validating that products were lawfully obtained throughout the supply chain. Start by identifying the exact violation in your notice and Account Health, then respond with genuine records that address that allegation.
What Amazon’s stolen-goods policy means for sellers
Amazon’s US Stolen Goods Policy prohibits selling products obtained through shoplifting, theft, or other illicit means at any point in the supply chain. Sellers are responsible for sourcing, selling, and fulfilling goods that were lawfully obtained, and for validating their supply chains. That means a seller’s own lack of knowledge does not, by itself, establish that the goods were lawful or require Amazon to restore an account.
Amazon announced that its dedicated stolen-goods policy took effect June 30, 2025, saying it was created to comply with new government regulations and reinforced existing seller obligations. The announcement does not name the regulation. Amazon’s announcement concerns the US policy; do not assume the same details apply in every marketplace.
Identify the actual allegation before appealing
Stolen goods, inauthentic products, and other intellectual-property complaints can involve the same inventory, but they are different policy categories. Read the notice and the corresponding Account Health entry carefully: the evidence and appeal route depend on what Amazon says happened.

These categories may overlap factually, but evidence that a product is authentic does not necessarily establish that it was lawfully sourced, and a sourcing record does not automatically resolve an IP complaint. Amazon also says it may warn or suspend a seller for unintentional infringement; that statement concerns IP enforcement and should not be treated as a universal legal rule for stolen-goods cases.
What to do after an Amazon suspension notice
- Read the notice and Account Health entry. Record the affected listings, the stated policy or violation, the requested documents, and the appeal instructions. Do not rely on a general assumption that the issue is about theft if Amazon identifies authenticity or IP instead.
- Preserve original sourcing records. Gather supplier invoices, purchase orders, payment and delivery records, supplier identities, and relevant correspondence. Keep the originals and do not alter documents in a misleading way.
- Match evidence to the allegation. For a sourcing concern, organize records that show the inventory’s chain of supply. For an authenticity or counterfeit complaint, provide the evidence Amazon requests; its IP policy names invoices, Amazon order IDs, and authorization letters as examples for certain cases.
- Submit through the route Amazon specifies. Amazon describes using Account Health to submit documents or information and appeal a suspension for the relevant IP matters. The workflow varies by violation, so use the link or submission path in your own notice.
- Keep the response factual. Explain what the records show and address the stated concern. Do not invent a supplier explanation, claim certainty unsupported by the documents, or submit a fabricated plan of action.
Amazon’s policy provides an appeal process, not a promise of reinstatement. If you believe Amazon or a rights holder made an error, use the dispute or appeal route given for your case. A significant dispute involving legal rights, inventory, or funds may warrant advice from a qualified lawyer.

Possible consequences under Amazon’s policy
Depending on the case, Amazon lists possible outcomes that include removal of listings, suspension or termination of selling privileges, ineligibility for fund disbursement, disposal of inventory held in Amazon fulfillment centers at the seller’s expense, and other legal consequences. These are possible policy outcomes, not a prediction of what will happen in an individual case.
