Amazon says its same-day delivery service now includes perishable groceries in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns. That is a reported service footprint, not a guarantee for every address: check your location and the items available before planning an order. Eligible shoppers can add selected fresh food to a Same-Day order with household essentials and other products.
What Amazon same-day grocery delivery includes
Amazon lists fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen food among the available groceries. Selection and coverage vary by location and item. Amazon says customers can put eligible groceries and other Same-Day products in one order.
The company says its fresh grocery selection for Same-Day Delivery has increased by more than 30% since August 2025. It also names string cheese, whole milk, eggs and Roma tomatoes among popular items; those are Amazon-reported examples, not an independent ranking.
How to check availability and order
- Enter your delivery address. Use Amazon’s grocery page to check which delivery options are available where you live.
- Look for eligible Same-Day items. Browse the groceries offered for your address and confirm that the items you want are available for Same-Day Delivery.
- Add groceries and other eligible products to your cart. Amazon says selected perishables can be ordered alongside household goods and other Same-Day items.
- Review delivery details at checkout. Confirm the delivery option, fee, item availability and any applicable Freshness Guarantee badge before placing the order. Local terms can differ from general published rates.
Amazon’s May 12, 2026 announcement says expansion will continue during 2026. Its figure of more than 2,300 cities and towns describes the company’s U.S. footprint; it does not establish eligibility at every address in those places.

Freshness assurance: what Amazon says it covers
Amazon says eligible perishable items displaying its Freshness Guarantee badge should arrive as expected; if they do not, Amazon says it will make things right. Check for the badge on the item and review the applicable terms. The statement is Amazon’s assurance, not an independent assessment of delivery quality.
In its August 13, 2025 launch announcement, Amazon described a specialized temperature-controlled fulfillment network, six-point quality checks when items arrive and before they leave for delivery, and insulated bags for temperature-sensitive products. These are company descriptions of its operations, not independently verified findings.

What Amazon’s growth figures do—and do not—show
Amazon says perishable grocery sales through the service grew 30 times since January and that customers who add fresh groceries to Same-Day orders shop about twice as often as customers who do not. The May 2026 page does not provide enough methodology to infer why those customers shop more often or whether adding groceries causes the difference. Treat both as company-reported figures, not independent market measurements.
The service was announced on August 13, 2025, when Amazon said it was available in more than 1,000 cities and towns and planned to exceed 2,300 by year-end. On May 12, 2026, Amazon reported that it had passed that footprint and said expansion would continue through 2026.
