Amazon Prime Try Before You Buy stopped accepting eligible orders after January 31, 2025. The former Prime benefit let customers try selected clothing, shoes and accessories at home before paying for what they kept. Amazon said free returns across its apparel department would continue, but shoppers should check the return terms on each current listing.

Is Amazon Try Before You Buy still available?

No. January 31, 2025, was the final day eligible customers could place orders through the U.S. Try Before You Buy benefit, according to The Associated Press. The service has ended; it is not an active Prime benefit.

How the former U.S. program worked

Under the U.S. terms reported by AP, Prime members could order up to six selected apparel items, try them at home, and return unwanted items without being charged within seven days after receiving them. The selection included clothing, shoes and accessories. Those terms describe the former U.S. program, not Amazon’s current return policy.

Why did Amazon end Prime Wardrobe?

Prime Wardrobe was the earlier name associated with Try Before You Buy. In a statement quoted by AP, an Amazon spokesperson said the service reached only a limited number of items and customers, while shoppers were increasingly using the company’s AI-powered fit tools. Amazon cited virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights and improved size charts as part of its rationale for phasing out the benefit. This was Amazon’s explanation, not independently established evidence that those features caused the shutdown.

Can you still return clothes to Amazon for free?

Amazon said apparel returns would remain free after the program ended. That statement does not establish that every apparel item, seller, location or return situation qualifies. Before buying, check the specific product listing and the return terms shown for your order; do not assume the old seven-day try-on window or its no-charge terms still apply.

When did Prime Wardrobe launch?

The service’s history varies by market and milestone. AP reported that Amazon began testing the offering under the Prime Wardrobe name in 2017. Amazon’s UK announcement said the service had launched in the U.S. in June 2018, then announced its UK launch on October 30, 2018.

The UK launch release described a different historical version: customers could select three to eight items, receive them without an upfront charge, decide within seven days, and use a resealable bag and prepaid label for free returns. These were UK launch terms from 2018, not the former U.S. allowance of up to six items. See Amazon’s UK announcement.

What can you use instead?

Stitch Fix is one apparel service mentioned as a comparison in Retail Dive’s coverage, but the available information does not establish that it currently offers the same free, item-by-item try-at-home arrangement. Treat it as a possible styling-service alternative, not a direct replacement, and confirm its current terms before signing up.
