Amazon Prime members can no longer share Prime benefits with people who live elsewhere through the Prime Invitee program. In the U.S., that program ended on October 1, 2025; Amazon’s U.K. help page lists June 30, 2025 as the end date there. The remaining household-sharing option is Amazon Family, which requires adults to share the same primary residential address.

Can I still share Amazon Prime with someone who lives somewhere else?

No. Amazon ended the outside-household Prime Invitee benefit in 2025. The Associated Press reported the U.S. end date as October 1, 2025, while Amazon’s U.K. help page lists June 30, 2025 for that market. Those dates are market-specific; check Amazon’s local guidance if you live elsewhere.

The change does not mean every kind of Prime sharing stopped. Amazon Family remains available for eligible people in the same household. Amazon defines a primary residential address as the home where a member spends most of their time, so sharing a delivery address alone does not establish eligibility.

What is Amazon Family?

Amazon Family lets an eligible Prime member share certain benefits with one other adult and eligible child or teen profiles while each person keeps a separate Amazon account. For U.S. adults, the accounts must be linked through Amazon Family, the adults must live at the same primary residential address, and they must agree to share payment methods for household verification. Amazon says the organizer shares their payment method with the other adult in new Amazon Families.

Amazon says older two-way payment-sharing arrangements created before September 18, 2026 continue until a member is added or removed. At that point, the arrangement changes to one-way sharing. This detail applies to the U.S. guidance and may change; review Amazon’s current instructions before changing a household account.

Prime Video Ad Free is not shared through Amazon Family and requires an individual subscription. Amazon’s U.S. help page also says these members cannot share Prime benefits: free-trial members, Student and Young Adult Prime members aged 18–22, and Prime Video-only members.

Can I add a teen?

Amazon’s U.S. help pages do not give fully consistent wording about new teen additions. One says teens added before April 7, 2025—or after January 1, 2026 where available—may be included; another says Amazon stopped accepting new teen additions as of April 7, 2025. Check the Amazon Family interface and current help page for your account’s location and eligibility rather than assuming new teen profiles can always be added.

What happens to Prime Invitees?

People who previously received Prime benefits as Invitees outside the member’s household lost that route when the program ended. Amazon’s U.K. help page points users toward Amazon Family where eligible. In practical terms, a former Invitee has two options: ask an eligible Prime member at their own primary residence to add them through Amazon Family, or get an individual Prime membership.

A reported U.S. transition offer of $14.99 for one year was available to affected users only through December 31, 2025, according to the Associated Press. It has expired and should not be treated as a current price or offer.

Should I join a household plan or get my own membership?

Route Who qualifies What to consider
Amazon Family sharing For U.S. adult sharing, the person must live at the same primary residential address as the Prime member and meet Amazon’s account and payment-verification requirements. Can provide access to Amazon’s listed shareable benefits without a separate Prime membership, but does not include Prime Video Ad Free.
Individual Prime membership A person who does not qualify for household sharing can consider their own membership, subject to Amazon’s local availability and terms. Check Amazon for the current price, eligible plans, and benefits in your country before signing up.

For a U.S. price reference, Amazon’s newsroom page displayed $14.99 per month or $139 per year for Prime when accessed on October 4, 2026. It also displayed Prime Access at $6.99 per month for eligible government-assistance recipients, and Prime for Young Adults at $7.49 per month or $69 per year for eligible college students. These are volatile prices and eligibility terms, not guaranteed quotes; verify them directly with Amazon before budgeting. Amazon’s Family guidance says Young Adult members cannot share Prime benefits.

Amazon’s pages do not establish how many subscribers were affected by the Invitee change. There is no supported audience count to use when estimating the policy’s reach.
