In the United States, Amazon ended Prime Invitee on October 1, 2025. People who used that program to get a Prime member’s shared delivery benefits lost that access. Household sharing remains available through Amazon Family for selected benefits, but adults must live at the same primary residential address. A former invitee who lives elsewhere needs their own Prime membership to receive Prime benefits.
What happened to Amazon Prime Invitee?
Amazon’s US customer-service page states: “Prime benefit sharing through the Prime Invitee program will end on 1 October 2025.” The date has passed. Prime Invitees lost access to the shared Prime delivery benefit; the change ended the out-of-household sharing route, not all Prime household sharing. Amazon’s Prime sharing help page explains the change, and the Associated Press reported it on September 2, 2025.
Can I still share my Amazon Prime with someone who doesn’t live with me?
No. Under Amazon’s current US guidance, Amazon Family is for sharing selected benefits with one other adult who lives with the Prime member at the same primary residential address. Amazon describes that as the place where a person considers home and spends most of their time. Each adult keeps a separate Amazon account, but they must meet the household requirement. Amazon’s Amazon Family help page has the current eligibility details.
If the other person lives elsewhere, they need their own Prime membership to receive Prime benefits. The AP reported a discounted one-year offer for affected invitees in 2025, but it expired on December 31, 2025; it is not a current offer.

What can household members share through Amazon Family?
Amazon says eligible sharing may include delivery benefits, exclusive Prime events and deals, Prime Video with ads, Prime Reading, certain third-party benefits, digital content and Amazon Music Prime. These are selected benefits, not every Prime feature or add-on. For example, Prime Video Ad Free requires an individual subscription. Check Amazon’s benefit-sharing guidance for the current list and account-specific conditions.
Amazon’s US guidance describes sharing with one other adult, up to four child profiles and certain eligible teens. Its pages differ on whether new teen additions are currently accepted: “What Is Amazon Family?” refers to teens added before April 7, 2025, or after January 1, 2026 where available, while “Create Your Amazon Family” says new teen additions stopped as of April 7, 2025. Because Amazon does not explain the discrepancy, check the live Amazon Family page and setup instructions for your account and location rather than relying on a general assumption.

What to check before creating or changing an Amazon Family
Payment-method sharing
When a new Amazon Family is created, Amazon says the Family Organizer shares their payment method with the other adult. Amazon describes this one-way sharing as a household-verification signal. Families created before September 18, 2026 with two-way payment sharing keep their existing arrangement until someone is added or removed; at that point, the arrangement transitions to one-way sharing. Review the current Amazon Family help page before changing membership, since this account detail may affect you.
Membership eligibility
Amazon says free-trial members, Student and Young Adult Prime members, and Prime Video-only members cannot share Prime benefits through Amazon Family. Confirm the account qualifies before relying on shared access.

Setup and household address
If the prospective adult member lives with the Prime member at the same primary residential address, the member can review Amazon Family setup and invite them, subject to account eligibility and the live terms. Separate accounts remain in use; household qualification does not merge the adults’ accounts. Amazon’s setup instructions provide the steps available for eligible accounts.

Are these rules the same outside the United States?
No single-country policy should be assumed to apply everywhere. The details above describe Amazon’s US guidance. In an announcement dated October 2, 2026, Amazon said Amazon Family had become available in Ireland, where one household adult could share selected benefits at no added cost while keeping an individual account. Amazon listed Irish Prime prices as €6.99 monthly or €69.90 annually; those are Ireland-specific figures, not US prices. The announcement said the feature was already available in the US, UK, Italy and Canada.
