What Prime members get now
Amazon and Grubhub announced the change in May 2024: the original one-year trial became an ongoing Prime benefit. The current offer includes $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, lower service fees on eligible orders, 5% credit back on qualifying pickup orders, and exclusive offers. Amazon describes Grubhub+ as a $120 annual value; that is the stated value of the membership, not a cash rebate. Amazon’s announcement and its Prime benefit explainer set out the terms and features.

Grubhub’s Prime offer page describes these benefits. Restaurant and Grubhub+ availability still depends on location, even though the partnership is offered in the U.S.

The offer is for eligible U.S. Amazon Prime members. You must activate it and link or create a Grubhub account; an active Prime membership alone does not necessarily turn on Grubhub+. Under the ongoing offer, Grubhub+ continues while you remain an eligible Prime member, with no automatic conversion of this Prime benefit into a paid Grubhub+ plan. That does not establish that every Prime account variant or existing Grubhub subscription qualifies without restriction. Public terms do not itemize every account-level exception. Historical coverage of the 2022 launch noted exclusions involving some Campus, Corporate, and partner memberships, so do not assume an existing or institutionally billed plan will stack with, pause for, or be replaced by the Prime benefit. The 2022 launch coverage describes the original offer, not all current billing scenarios.
How to activate and check the benefit
- Sign in to the Amazon account that has the eligible U.S. Prime membership.
- Go to amazon.com/grubhub and review the offer terms shown for your account.
- Select the claim or activation option. Amazon says the ongoing offer needs to be activated once.
- Sign in to your existing Grubhub account or create one, then complete the account-linking flow.
- Check the Grubhub membership area to confirm Grubhub+ is active on the intended account before ordering.
- For an order, confirm the restaurant’s Grubhub+ indicator and the cart’s displayed minimum. Review the checkout breakdown for charges that remain.
If the activation button is missing, check that you are signed in to the correct Amazon account and that Prime is active; try the page in a browser, sign out of competing Amazon or Grubhub accounts, and check whether the offer was already claimed. If Amazon shows activation but Grubhub+ does not appear, sign out and back in to Grubhub and confirm which account was linked. Do not place an order expecting the benefit until the membership or checkout screen confirms it; contact Grubhub support if the account status remains inconsistent.

What “$0 delivery fees” does—and does not—cover
A waived delivery fee is only one part of the checkout total. Eligible restaurants and qualifying carts receive the delivery-fee benefit; the applicable minimum is generally $12, but use the threshold displayed for the restaurant and order. A restaurant appearing on Grubhub does not by itself mean that it is Grubhub+ eligible. Look for the Grubhub+ badge or use the eligibility filter.
Other costs may remain, including service fees, small-order fees, local or regulatory fees, taxes, tips, and restaurant-specific charges. Menu prices can also affect the total. Amazon and Grubhub say restaurant prices on Amazon are the same as on Grubhub.com or in the Grubhub app, but that does not make the final totals identical across checkout options or competing services. Compare the full amount before placing an order.

If checkout still shows a delivery fee, verify the restaurant badge and minimum subtotal first. Then distinguish that fee from service fees, taxes, tips, and other charges in the breakdown. Pickup may be a better fit if delivery eligibility or the final total makes the order unattractive.
Ordering through Amazon does not make Amazon the delivery operator
Customers can access Grubhub ordering on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app, as well as through Grubhub’s own services. The Amazon integration is an additional way to browse and order; Grubhub remains the marketplace and handles restaurant availability and fulfillment. The partnership is not a relaunch of Amazon’s former U.S. restaurant-delivery operation, which ended in 2019. If you already pay for Grubhub+
Check your current membership and its billing source before activating the Prime offer. If you pay through Apple, Google Play, an employer, a campus, or another partner, do not assume linking Prime will cancel or pause that plan. Note its renewal date, then verify the membership status and billing source after account linking. If two memberships or conflicting billing details appear, ask Grubhub support to clarify before you pay again or cancel a plan.
Is the benefit worth using?
For someone who already pays for Prime, activation can be worthwhile if local Grubhub restaurants match their habits and enough orders qualify. It is less compelling if the preferred restaurants are not eligible, typical carts miss the minimum, delivery is infrequent, or another service has better coverage or a lower total. The 5% pickup credit is most useful to someone who will make qualifying pickup purchases and use the resulting credit.

Amazon reports that members who use the offer monthly save about $300 a year, and says those users typically place three or more orders per month. Grubhub’s landing page separately states an average annual saving of $336. These are company-reported averages, not guaranteed savings for an individual; actual value depends on qualifying orders and promotions. A practical estimate is:
Estimated annual benefit = eligible delivery fees avoided + eligible service-fee savings + pickup credits and promotions − remaining fees and tips.
Do not treat the stated $120 annual membership value as $120 in cash. And if you are considering Prime only for food delivery, weigh the full Prime membership on its own merits rather than treating this perk as a standalone subscription purchase.
