Amazon said on September 19, 2023, that it planned to hire 250,000 U.S. workers for the holiday season—100,000 more than its 150,000 seasonal hiring target for 2022. The announcement covered seasonal, full-time and part-time roles, and Amazon cited projected customer demand as the main factor in setting seasonal hiring goals. It describes a 2023 plan, not a current hiring forecast.
What Amazon announced for the 2023 holiday season
Amazon’s 250,000 figure was a hiring plan for the 2023 holiday season in the United States. The company announced it on September 19, 2023, describing roles across seasonal, full-time and part-time work. The target was 100,000 higher than the 150,000 seasonal hiring target Amazon had set for 2022, according to GeekWire’s report.
Amazon senior vice president of Worldwide Operations John Felton said, “The holiday season is always a special time at Amazon and we’re excited to hire 250,000 additional people this year to help serve customers across the country,” as quoted by the Associated Press.
Why the target increased from 2022
Amazon’s spokesperson told GeekWire that annual seasonal hiring goals depend on numerous factors, chiefly projected customer demand. The 2023 announcement therefore signals the company’s staffing plan for that holiday season; it does not by itself show how many people were ultimately hired or prove that customer spending met expectations.

How the figure compares with later plans
Amazon also announced plans for 250,000 U.S. seasonal jobs for the 2025 holiday season. That later announcement, in Amazon’s 2025 release, is a separate annual plan. Matching totals do not establish that the same number of workers was hired in each year or that staffing needs were equivalent.
Neither the 2023 plan nor the 2025 announcement establishes Amazon’s holiday hiring total for 2026. The 2023 headline should be read as historical news rather than a current forecast.
