Amazon’s October 28, 2025 notice to Washington state anticipated about 2,303 employee separations across its Washington locations, with dates scheduled from January 26 through May 26, 2026. The notice was the state-level breakdown of the company’s approximately 14,000 global corporate cuts announced that October—not the separate round of about 16,000 additional cuts Amazon announced in January 2026.
How many Amazon jobs are affected in Washington?
Amazon’s notice to the Washington Employment Security Department lists approximately 2,303 anticipated separations. That is an administrative estimate in a filing dated October 28, 2025, not an independently verified count of completed layoffs. The notice does not estimate the specific economic impact on Washington communities.

The state figure is part of Amazon’s October 2025 global announcement of approximately 14,000 corporate job cuts, as reported by The Associated Press. It should not be added to Amazon’s later announcement of approximately 16,000 further corporate cuts in January 2026 as if both were part of the same filing.
Which Washington locations and job types are listed?
The notice covers Amazon offices in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington-based remote employees, and other locations around the state. GeekWire reported that the affected employees were primarily in Seattle and Bellevue, describing the filing as the first geographic breakdown of Amazon’s October reduction (GeekWire’s October 28 report).

The notice’s attachment lists a broad range of job titles, including:
- Software development engineers, applied scientists and data engineers
- Product and program managers
- Recruiters and human resources staff
- Designers and finance employees
- Other roles
The filing does not show that these job families were affected equally, nor does it establish the outcome for any particular employee.

When were the separations scheduled?
The notice lists nine scheduled separation dates, beginning January 26 and ending May 26, 2026. It says employees who accepted an internal transfer opportunity before their scheduled separation date would not be separated under this action. The filing does not say how many employees transferred or ultimately left.
What does the filing say about the action?
Amazon’s notice says the separations were expected to be permanent. It also states: “This action is not the result of, nor reasonably expected to result in, any overall relocation or contracting out of Amazon’s Washington operations/employee positions.” This describes what Amazon told the state; it is not an explanation of why each position was eliminated.

The notice says information about benefits and, where applicable, severance would be provided separately to eligible affected employees. It does not specify individual eligibility, benefit amounts or whether every detail described for the October global announcement applied to each person covered by the Washington filing.

Amazon senior vice president Beth Galetti described the company’s approach to the later round as “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy,” according to AP. That statement concerned the broader organizational framing and is not a specific explanation for the Washington positions.
