Amazon offers free Same-Day Delivery for qualifying grocery orders over $25 to Prime members in most areas. It has not been established that Amazon ended a $15-a-month grocery fee: Amazon’s separately announced grocery-delivery subscription was priced at $9.99 a month for Prime members in 2024. These are two different offers, and neither supports the claim that a $15 fee was dropped because of Walmart.
Is Amazon grocery delivery free with Prime?
In most areas, Prime members pay no delivery fee on qualifying Amazon Same-Day Delivery orders over $25. Orders below $25 incur a $2.99 delivery fee, according to Amazon’s August 2025 announcement and its May 2026 update. The exact eligibility and charges depend on the address and order; check Amazon for your location and confirm the fee shown at checkout.
This service lets customers add fresh groceries to a Same-Day order with other Amazon products. Amazon first announced it in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns in August 2025, then reported availability in more than 2,300 by May 2026. Those are company-reported coverage figures, not a guarantee that every address in those places is eligible. Amazon reported that its perishable selection had grown by more than 30% since the 2025 launch; the figure is Amazon’s, not an independent measurement.
Did Amazon end a $15-a-month grocery delivery fee?
The available official pricing announcements do not substantiate an ended $15 monthly fee. The likely source of confusion is that Amazon has offered two distinct arrangements: a per-order Same-Day Delivery benefit for Prime members and a separate grocery-delivery subscription announced in 2024.

Prime Same-Day Delivery
The $25 minimum and $2.99 below-minimum fee apply to Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery offer for Prime members in most areas. They are per-order delivery terms, not a monthly grocery subscription price.
Separate grocery-delivery subscription
In April 2024, Amazon announced a separate subscription costing $9.99 per month for Prime members. It covered qualifying orders over $35 from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and participating local grocery and specialty retailers. Because these offers have different prices, order minimums, and participating services, a monthly subscription charge should not be confused with a delivery fee on an individual Same-Day order.
Did Walmart pressure cause Amazon to change the fee?
That causal claim is not established. The Associated Press reported in August 2025 that Amazon’s grocery-delivery expansion was expected to put pressure on services from Walmart, Kroger, and Target. That is competitive context, not evidence that Walmart caused Amazon to end a $15 monthly fee. Amazon’s 2025 announcement described the Same-Day grocery expansion as an effort to make shopping simpler, faster, and more affordable.

How does Amazon’s offer compare with Walmart+?
Compare the terms that apply to your actual order, and keep membership costs separate from delivery charges. Walmart’s terms say scheduled delivery can be free for Walmart+ members on eligible orders of at least $35 when an available time slot shows a $0 fee. Delivery depends on the address, inventory, eligible items, and open slots. Walmart’s terms are at Walmart’s terms of use.

Amazon emphasizes combining groceries with other Amazon products in one Same-Day order. Walmart’s cited terms cover scheduled and unscheduled delivery benefits, but the free scheduled-delivery condition depends on the slot and order qualifying.

Membership prices are a separate comparison. In August 2025, AP reported Walmart+ at $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Those are historical figures, not verified current prices. Check each service’s current membership terms before comparing annual costs.

What should you check before placing an order?
- Enter your delivery address in Amazon or Walmart to see whether the service covers your location.
- Check that the items and order qualify for the offer; do not assume every grocery item counts toward a minimum.
- Review the delivery fee and, for Walmart, the selected time slot shown at checkout.
- Compare any per-order charge with the membership cost you actually pay, rather than treating a free delivery benefit as the same thing as a free membership.
