How to use a courtesy credit on Amazon.com
- Add an eligible item sold and shipped by Amazon.com to your cart.
- Select Proceed to Checkout.
- Review the order summary. If the credit applies, it should appear there before you place the order.
- If the order total exceeds the credit, choose another payment method for the remaining amount.
Amazon Staff says a credit issued by Customer Service is added to the account and applied automatically to a qualifying purchase. Check the summary before submitting the order rather than assuming the credit has reduced the total.

Why might the credit not apply?
Check the seller and shipper
The cited Amazon.com instructions specify an item sold and shipped by Amazon.com. A listing from a third-party seller may not qualify under that offer’s terms, even if it appears on Amazon.
Check the offer’s restrictions
The same Staff response says promotional codes may not be used for gift cards, sales tax, Prime membership fees, gift-wrap charges, or additional shipping costs unless the offer says otherwise. These are terms described in that response, not a universal rule for every credit. Read the conditions attached to your specific offer.

Check the order summary
If the credit does not appear at checkout, verify that the item and order meet the offer’s conditions before placing the order. Amazon’s public guidance cited here does not establish that every credit works across all marketplaces or promotions.

In the cited Amazon Staff guidance, a canceled order restores the one-time credit for another order. If the order is returned for a refund, that guidance says the credit is not available for reuse. Because the result may depend on the terms attached to a particular offer, check those terms before canceling or returning an order.
