Alkimos Drive-Through Nando’s Proposal Was Later Reported to Be Replaced

A drive-through Nando’s appeared in a 2025 Alkimos commercial proposal, but later records and reporting changed the picture. Here’s what is confirmed—and what remains unclear.

A drive-through Nando’s was named in a 2025 proposal for a commercial site in Alkimos, north of Perth. The City of Wanneroo later listed approval for four drive-through food outlets and a drive-through liquor store at the address, but its record did not identify Nando’s as a tenant. In July 2026, PerthNow reported that the food-and-liquor plan was to be replaced by a Harvey Norman development. The available records do not establish the final legal or construction status, or whether Nando’s will open there.

What the original Alkimos proposal included

In a report published on 6 August 2025, PerthNow described proposals by Satterley Property Group for commercial development along Romeo Road, near the then-current end of the Mitchell Freeway and about 40 kilometres from Perth CBD. The food-and-liquor proposal was for four drive-through food outlets, including a proposed Nando’s, plus a drive-through Thirsty Camel liquor store. The report said the other food outlets were not all identified; one appeared to be Guzman y Gomez. PerthNow’s 2025 report

The proposed food outlets were designed with dual-lane drive-throughs, and the site was allocated 94 parking bays. The food outlets sought approval for 24-hour operation, though the report said those hours were unlikely to be implemented. The application proposed liquor-store hours of 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–10pm Sunday. These were proposed arrangements, not current trading hours.

A separate proposal across the road covered a 2,200-square-metre Officeworks and a 13,511-square-metre hardware showroom expected by the report to be Bunnings. It included 419 parking bays. PerthNow reported proposal values of $8 million for the food-and-liquor project and $18 million for the Officeworks and hardware showroom plans; these are reported figures, not audited development costs.

What happened to the proposal

Date What the record or report said What it establishes
6 August 2025 PerthNow said the proposals were open for public comment through the City of Wanneroo until 14 August 2025, after which they would be considered by the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel. PerthNow The Nando’s outlet was part of a proposal, not an announcement of an operating restaurant.
November 2025 The City of Wanneroo’s approved-development list records approval for four drive-through food outlets and a drive-through liquor store at 14 Mooloolaba Road, Alkimos. City of Wanneroo approved-development list Approval was recorded for that development type and location. The listing does not name Nando’s as a tenant.
2 July 2026 PerthNow reported that the $8 million fast-food and liquor proposal was to be replaced by a Harvey Norman development, while the separate retail plan across the road was not expected to be affected. PerthNow’s July 2026 report This is a later reported change to the plan, not confirmation of the final legal disposition or construction status.

The City of Wanneroo identifies Alkimos as being within the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel area and describes a DAP as an independent body that determines certain development applications. City of Wanneroo’s DAP information A recorded development approval and a later reported replacement proposal are distinct events; neither, by itself, confirms that a named restaurant is operating or will open.

Does the proposal mean an Alkimos Nando’s is opening?

No confirmed opening is established by these records. Nando’s was named as a proposed outlet in the 2025 report, but the City’s approval listing describes the permitted development type rather than naming restaurant tenants. The later report says the food-and-liquor proposal was to be replaced. The sources do not establish whether that change was completed through the planning process, whether construction began, or what tenants are currently planned for the site.

The 2025 report also quoted Planning Solutions, the consultant that prepared Satterley’s applications, saying: “The proposal represents a well-sited and designed development that balances the operational requirements of the businesses with access and interface considerations.” That is the applicant’s position, not an independent finding about the development’s effects. What to check for a definitive update

For the latest status, check current City of Wanneroo or Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel records for 14 Mooloolaba Road, including any subsequent application, amendment, withdrawal, or conditions. A tenant announcement or evidence of construction would also be needed to establish whether a Nando’s is actually proceeding. The cited reports and listing do not settle those later details.
