The separate Bunnings and Officeworks showroom proposal across Romeo Road was also reported approved in November 2025, but no confirmed opening date is established in the reports cited here.
What is planned for Alkimos now?
There are two separate Romeo Road proposals to track. The October 2026 update concerns the site once earmarked for fast-food outlets and a liquor store; the Bunnings/Officeworks showroom is a different proposal across the road.
| Proposal | Reported status | Reported scale | Parking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harvey Norman, replacing the fast-food and liquor plan | Unanimously approved by Metro Outer DAP, as reported 1 October 2026 | $18 million; 6,359 square metres | 163 bays in the design described in PerthNow’s 2 July 2026 pending-application report; the October approval report does not state a revised count |
| Bunnings/Officeworks bulky-goods showroom | Approved in November 2025; the November report said it was expected to be Bunnings Warehouse and Officeworks | $18 million | 415 bays |
The Harvey Norman proposal replaces the earlier plan for four fast-food outlets and a liquor store. Marc Re of Planning Solutions, speaking for Satterley, said: “This proposal replaces the drive-through outlets approved on the site in November 2025, and better aligns with the use form and scale of development approved and under construction along the Romeo Road corridor.” That is the applicant’s stated rationale, not an independent assessment of the development’s effects.
Is the drive-through Nando’s still going ahead?
No, not under the plan described in the November 2025 approval report. That proposal covered a 13,657-square-metre site west of the showroom site, with four fast-food outlets and a liquor store, and 94 parking bays. PerthNow reported that concepts were expected to include a drive-through Nando’s, Guzman y Gomez and Thirsty Camel. Those were proposed concepts, not confirmation that the businesses had opened. The later Harvey Norman proposal was reported as replacing that plan.

What happened to the Bunnings and Officeworks proposal?
It is separate from the superseded food-and-liquor precinct. PerthNow reported approval in November 2025 for an $18 million trade-supplies and bulky-goods showroom expected to be Bunnings Warehouse and Officeworks, with 415 parking bays. A July 2026 report said the showroom proposal across Romeo Road was not expected to be affected by the Harvey Norman proposal.
These reports establish proposal and approval details, not that either retailer is trading. They do not provide a confirmed opening date for the showroom or the Harvey Norman site.

What concerns did residents raise about the original plan?
For the original fast-food precinct, PerthNow reported 109 objections and 45 submissions in support. Reported concerns included traffic, noise, a drive-through speaker’s effect on nearby homes, and the concentration of fast-food outlets. The 2025 approval account said conditions included acoustic walls along the southern boundaries.
The applicant’s supporting planning-panel presentation argued that the site was zoned for service-commercial use, that access and traffic had been assessed, and that setbacks, landscaping and acoustic walls would address the residential interface. These are the proponent’s representations; they do not establish that every impact would be absent.

What do the planning records establish?
The City of Wanneroo’s November 2025 approvals list records Development Assessment Panel entries for the bulky-goods showroom and the four drive-through food outlets plus drive-through liquor store. The City’s panel page lists the 2026 bulky-goods showroom application at Lot 2 (No. 12) Pateley Street as scheduled for the 24 September 2026 meeting. Those records support the application types and process; the detailed later outcome for the Harvey Norman proposal cited here comes from PerthNow’s 1 October 2026 report.
Approval should not be confused with construction completion or opening. Based on the reports cited here, readers can identify the approved proposals and their reported scope, but not when the sites will begin trading.
