#1 Best Overall
- This truly terrifying sci-fi horror-thriller takes the legendary ?Alien? franchise back to its iconic roots. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers come face-to-face with the deadliest life form in the universe. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
The two domestic opening figures reflect different reporting points and sources: use The Numbers’ exact listed amount for its current database figure, and describe Disney’s as the studio’s opening-weekend estimate. Disney said the film had the second-biggest domestic opening in the current Alien series and the biggest opening of director Fede Alvarez’s career. That record characterization is Disney’s, published August 18, 2024.
How does it rank among Alien films?
In The Numbers’ franchise table, Prometheus is ahead of Alien: Romulus in both domestic and worldwide nominal gross. Romulus ranks above the other listed franchise entries on those two measures.

These comparisons use the nominal totals in The Numbers’ Alien franchise table; they do not establish an inflation-adjusted ranking. Disney’s “second-biggest domestic opening” statement concerns opening weekend, a different measure from a film’s full-run gross.

The Numbers reports an $80 million production budget, accessed October 4, 2026. This is a database-reported budget, not an audited cost confirmed by the studio. A production budget alone does not determine a film’s profit: the listed box-office gross is not the same as the amount received by the studio, and the budget figure does not by itself account for marketing or other costs.
