Alaska reports that several major integration milestones are complete and says its synergy capture is on track. Its published financial results are for the combined company, however, and do not show Hawaiian’s separate contribution or an achieved acquisition-specific return on investment.
What has changed since Alaska bought Hawaiian?
Alaska Airlines completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Holdings on September 18, 2024. The companies initially continued to operate separately, with separate websites, reservation systems and loyalty programs. The first-year work was largely about bringing behind-the-scenes operations and customer systems together while maintaining Hawaiian as a distinct brand.
Back-office and operational integration
In its 2025 Form 10-K, Alaska said it had consolidated most back-office functions, co-located stations and begun integrating operational systems. In October 2025, Alaska and Hawaiian received a single FAA operating certificate. Alaska said the certificate harmonized training, policies, procedures and manuals; it did not mean the two guest-facing brands disappeared.
Loyalty and passenger systems
Alaska launched Atmos Rewards in August 2025, combining Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles. By September 2026, Alaska said three of its four major integration milestones were complete: a single loyalty program, a single operating certificate and a single passenger service system. That milestone count is Alaska’s own reporting, not an independent assessment of integration quality.

What did Alaska forecast, and what has it reported?
At the September 2024 deal close, Alaska Airlines set out acquisition-specific financial expectations. In later company disclosures, it described progress on synergies and a broader profit plan, but those are not equivalent to reporting that the original acquisition targets have been met.
| Measure | What Alaska said | What the disclosure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Run-rate synergies | At least $235 million, forecast in Alaska Airlines’ 2024 acquisition announcement | Alaska said synergy capture remained on track for the fourth consecutive quarter in its Q4 2025 results release. The reviewed disclosures do not quantify a realized Hawaiian-specific total or establish that the $235 million target was achieved. |
| Earnings accretion | High-single-digit earnings accretion within the first two years, forecast at close | The reviewed disclosures do not establish that this acquisition-specific forecast was achieved. |
| Return on invested capital | Mid-teens return by year three, forecast at close | The reviewed disclosures do not report an achieved acquisition-specific return on invested capital. |
| Alaska Accelerate profit plan | In September 2026, Alaska said it had captured roughly two-thirds of a $1 billion incremental-profit plan | This is a broader Alaska Air Group strategy, not the Hawaiian acquisition’s $235 million synergy forecast. |
These distinctions matter: a synergy target is an acquisition forecast, “on track” is management’s progress assessment, and the $1 billion figure is a broader company plan. They should not be treated as interchangeable proof of merger returns.

What do Alaska’s financial results say?
Alaska Air Group’s January 2026 results release reported lower consolidated full-year income for 2025 than for 2024. These figures cover the combined company; they do not isolate Hawaiian’s contribution. The comparison is also affected by the fact that the acquisition closed during 2024, rather than at the start of that year.
| Alaska Air Group measure | 2025 | 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| GAAP net income | $100 million | $395 million |
| Adjusted net income | $293 million | $625 million |
The declines do not establish that the merger caused weaker results, nor do they answer whether Hawaiian is generating the return Alaska expected. Alaska also reported Q4 2025 year-over-year growth of 7% in premium revenue, 22% in cargo revenue and 12% in loyalty revenue, along with adjusted earnings per share of $0.43. Those are combined-business results, not acquisition-specific return measures.

Have passengers benefited from the merger?
There are tangible changes passengers can identify: Atmos Rewards combines the airlines’ loyalty programs, and Alaska has reported a shared passenger service system among its completed integration milestones. Hawaiian’s guest-facing identity remains distinct even with the single operating certificate. Alaska also described expanded network access as part of the combination.
Those structural changes may create customer utility, but they do not by themselves demonstrate lower fares, more reliable service or higher customer satisfaction. The company materials cited here do not provide independent measurements establishing those outcomes. Alaska’s 2025 results release also said premium-card acquisitions were at a record level and nearly one-quarter of Q4 signups were for a new premium card; that is evidence of commercial activity, not a measure of value for an individual cardholder.

What is Alaska planning next?
Alaska’s September 2026 Investor Day outlined a plan to serve at least 15 long-haul intercontinental destinations by 2030 and continue investing in Hawaiian’s Kahuʻewai Hawaiʻi Investment Plan. These are future plans, not completed merger outcomes.
“The heavy lifting is behind us, the value creation is in front of us, and we are entering the phase where the investments we have made in premium products, global connectivity, loyalty, cargo and Hawaiʻi increasingly show up in our results.”
