Airbnb announced an expansion to Asia Pacific guests on February 23, 2026, and said in its later 2026 Summer Release that the option was appearing on more listings in more countries. It is not available for every guest or booking: the checkout page is the place to confirm whether it applies to your reservation.
What Reserve Now, Pay Later means
If Airbnb offers the option for your booking, you can reserve an eligible listing without making an immediate reservation payment. You pay the full scheduled amount later, before check-in. Airbnb shows the amount, currency and due date at checkout, and lists scheduled payments in the booking confirmation and payment area. There is no additional fee for using Reserve Now, Pay Later, according to Airbnb’s Payment Terms.
Airbnb says it automatically charges the payment method used for the booking on the scheduled due date. You can pay earlier or update the payment method. Airbnb says it sends a reminder three days before a scheduled charge. Check the dates and currency on your own checkout screen; the schedule is specific to the reservation.
Who may be eligible
Airbnb’s February 23, 2026 announcement described the rollout as available to Asia Pacific guests booking eligible listings around the world, provided the listing had a flexible or moderate cancellation policy. The announcement excluded guests paying in Brazilian real (BRL), Indian rupee (INR) or Turkish lira (TRY). Airbnb’s later 2026 Summer Release said the feature was available on more listings in more countries and would appear more often in the booking journey. Airbnb’s Help Center lists conditions for scheduled payments, including Reserve Now, Pay Later. These include:
- A short-term stay of fewer than 28 nights.
- Check-in at least 14 days away, subject to the cancellation policy.
- At least $50 USD remaining after coupons and credits, including taxes and fees.
- A supported payment method; Airbnb also specifies a U.S.-only condition for bank-account payments.
Airbnb says monthly stays of 28 nights or more, Airbnb Services and Experiences, and bookings charged in BRL, INR or TRY are ineligible for scheduled payments. The criteria and available payment methods can depend on the reservation and location, so nationality or destination alone does not confirm eligibility. Look for the option at checkout. When you pay—and what happens if a charge fails
The checkout page states the amount and due date. If you do not pay early, Airbnb says it charges the original payment method on that date. Under Airbnb’s Payment Terms, if the charge fails, Airbnb may ask you to pay with another method within 72 hours. If payment is not made by the due date, the reservation may be canceled under the applicable terms.
Do not treat the future due date as permission to wait past it. Check the payment area in your account for the scheduled charge, and make sure the listed payment method can cover it.

How cancellation works before payment is due
Reserve Now, Pay Later does not change the host’s cancellation policy. Airbnb says that for the eligible listings described in its February 2026 announcement, payment is due before the free-cancellation period ends. Its Help Center says that if a guest cancels before the full scheduled payment is due, the scheduled charge is canceled and the guest is not charged for the reservation.
After the free-cancellation window ends, the listing’s policy governs whether a refund is available. If payment is already due or you do not pay on time, the applicable cancellation policy and payment terms determine the outcome. Read the listing’s cancellation terms and the dates shown at checkout before booking; paying later does not create a general right to cancel without penalty.

How it differs from Airbnb’s other payment choices

These options are not interchangeable. In particular, Pay Part Now, Part Later requires an amount at checkout, while Reserve Now, Pay Later defers the reservation payment when available. Compare the specific checkout schedule and the listing’s cancellation policy before choosing.
What Airbnb’s adoption and survey figures do—and do not—show
Airbnb and Focaldata surveyed 3,222 adults in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand in January and February 2026. In the Airbnb-commissioned survey, 67% said flexible payment options were important when booking a holiday, 75% said they planned to or might use a flexible payment option for their next trip, and 41% said they had delayed or missed their preferred accommodation because of time spent coordinating payment with travel companions. These are respondents’ answers, not observed booking behavior or independent evidence that the feature changes booking outcomes.

Airbnb’s Q4 2025 shareholder letter reported adoption above 70% for the U.S. launch among eligible bookings; its footnote defines the adoption percentage using global gross booking value in Q4 2025. It is not a claim that more than 70% of all Airbnb reservations used the option.
