Air Canada announced a cabin redesign for 25 Jazz-operated Dash 8-400 aircraft flying as Air Canada Express, including new Expliseat seats, device holders and tray tables. The airline said the aircraft would retain 78 seats and the same seat pitch. It targeted mid-2026 for seat installation, but the official sources available through October 7, 2026 do not confirm that all 25 refits were completed.
What Air Canada announced for its 25 Q-400s
On September 17, 2025, Air Canada announced a phased cabin refresh through 2026 for 25 De Havilland Dash 8-400s operated by Jazz Aviation LP for Air Canada Express. The planned work includes new seats and cabin interiors. Air Canada said the design would bring elements of its mainline interior standard to the regional aircraft, with colors and textures inspired by Canada’s natural environment. Air Canada’s announcement.
Mark Nasr, Air Canada’s executive vice president and chief operations officer, said the aim was to bring design details and comforts from its larger jets to the Dash 8-400. Those are the airline’s stated goals for the redesign, not independent findings about passenger comfort.
What the new seats are supposed to include
Air Canada named Expliseat as the seat supplier. Its announcement describes the seats as ergonomic and well-padded and specifies a seatback multi-use holder for tablets and phones, along with a tray table. The airline said each aircraft would retain 78 seats and that seat pitch—the distance between rows—would remain unchanged. It did not give a numerical pitch measurement. Air Canada’s seat details.

- Makes a great souvenir or gift
Air Canada expected seat installation to be finished by mid-2026. That was a forecast in the 2025 announcement; it is not proof that installation was completed by that date.
Where Air Canada said Wi-Fi would be available
The airline said fast, free Wi-Fi sponsored by Bell would begin in October 2025 on selected flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Montréal and Ottawa. Air Canada described this as the first time Wi-Fi would be available on a De Havilland Dash 8-400. It also said installation on the rest of its Dash 8-400 fleet was still being determined. The announcement therefore does not establish that every Q-400, or every flight on those routes, has Wi-Fi. Air Canada’s announcement.
Air Canada’s connectivity page search information extended only through September 16, 2026, so it does not establish which flights have Wi-Fi on October 7, 2026. Check the airline’s in-flight entertainment and connectivity page or flight details close to departure for current availability.

Are the 25 cabin refits complete?
Completion of all 25 refits is unconfirmed in the official sources available through October 7, 2026. Air Canada’s November 2025 fleet-upgrade announcement reiterated the work on 25 Dash 8-400s but did not give an aircraft-by-aircraft completion tally. Its November 2025 announcement is not a completion report.

Chorus Aviation, Jazz’s parent company, described a passenger-cabin refurbishment program and a Dash 8-400 seat initiative in its February 2026 release, including Wi-Fi for selected Billy Bishop aircraft. It said Air Canada would pay the cabin refurbishment program’s costs. The release covers Jazz’s wider fleet and does not verify completion of all 25 Air Canada-announced Q-400 cabins. What passengers can reasonably expect
- Seats: Expliseat seats with device holders and tray tables were announced; the published plan retained 78 seats and unchanged pitch.
- Cabin appearance: A refreshed interior inspired by Air Canada’s mainline design was planned.
- Wi-Fi: The initial announcement covered selected Billy Bishop–Montréal and Billy Bishop–Ottawa flights, not the entire Q-400 fleet.
- Timing: Mid-2026 was the seat-installation target. It should not be treated as confirmation that an individual aircraft has been refitted.
Because the public announcements do not confirm the refit status of each aircraft, passengers who need to know whether a specific flight has Wi-Fi or the refreshed cabin should check with Air Canada close to travel rather than assume every Dash 8-400 has received the upgrades.
