Air Canada announced a 40% increase in India seat capacity for Winter 2024–25, including four weekly nonstop flights between Toronto and Mumbai. That was a dated seasonal plan—not confirmation of the airline’s October 2026 schedule. A later Air India codeshare announcement added connecting options, but does not establish new Air Canada-operated direct routes.
What did Air Canada announce for India?
On June 3, 2024, Air Canada said it planned to increase India seat capacity by 40% beginning in late October, with 25 weekly flights and 7,400 seats per week for Winter 2024–25. The airline also said Montreal–Delhi route capacity would rise by 44%. These are figures in the airline’s announcement for that season, not current capacity figures. Air Canada’s June 3, 2024 announcement said the schedule was subject to final government approval.
Toronto–Mumbai nonstop
The centerpiece was a planned four-times-weekly Toronto–Mumbai nonstop. Air Canada described it as the only nonstop Canada–Mumbai route at the time of the announcement. The announced service was scheduled to operate outbound from October 27, 2024, through March 28, 2025, with return flights from October 28, 2024, through March 29, 2025. The airline listed a Boeing 777-200LR for the route. Those dates and aircraft apply to the 2024–25 schedule, not necessarily later seasons.
Delhi service and connections
The plan also included daily seasonal Calgary–Delhi service via London Heathrow, daily Montreal–Delhi flights, and Vancouver–London Heathrow connections to Delhi. Calgary and Vancouver travelers therefore were not being promised nonstop Canada–Delhi flights on those routings: the announced itineraries connected through Heathrow. Air Canada listed Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for Calgary–London–Delhi.

Is Air Canada flying nonstop from Toronto to Mumbai now?
The 2024 announcement planned nonstop Toronto–Mumbai service for the specified Winter 2024–25 dates. It does not establish that the route operates in October 2026 or on any other later date. The available announcements do not verify Air Canada’s current Canada–India route map or frequencies. Check Air Canada’s timetable or booking results for your exact travel dates, and confirm whether the flight is nonstop and which airline operates it.
What did the later Air India codeshare change?
On November 22, 2025, Air India announced that its codeshare arrangement with Air Canada would resume effective December 2, 2025. The arrangement expands access to connecting itineraries; it is not evidence that Air Canada itself operates every flight or has launched direct service to each city named.

For a specific itinerary, distinguish the airline selling or marketing a flight from the operating carrier shown in the booking details. Air India’s November 22, 2025 codeshare announcement describes the connecting access, not new Air Canada-operated long-haul routes.
What could support further expansion—and what it does not prove
Canada and India’s expanded bilateral air transport agreement allows unlimited flights between the two countries, according to Transport Canada’s November 2022 announcement. That removes a limit on the number of flights permitted under the agreement; it does not mean a carrier has scheduled or launched a particular route.

Airbus said in February 2026 that Air Canada had disclosed a firm order for eight A350-1000 aircraft, describing the type as capable of supporting future long-range connectivity, including to the Indian subcontinent. This is fleet context, not an Air Canada announcement of a named India route. Airbus’s February 2026 announcement does not specify a new Canada–India schedule.

Because a seasonal nonstop, a Heathrow connection and a codeshare itinerary are different products, compare the details for your travel date rather than relying on a route announcement from a prior season.

- Search your exact dates. Use Air Canada’s timetable or booking engine; the 2024–25 dates do not establish current availability.
- Check the stops. Confirm whether the itinerary is nonstop or connects through Heathrow or Delhi, and allow for the connection shown in the booking.
- Identify the operating carrier. A codeshare can put an Air Canada or Air India flight number on a segment flown by the other carrier.
- Verify each segment and its details. Confirm the operating airline, aircraft and cabin for the selected itinerary; the aircraft cited in the 2024 announcement are not a guarantee for a current flight.
The June 2024 announcement framed India as important because of longstanding and growing family and trade ties. Mark Galardo, then Air Canada’s Executive Vice President – Revenue and Network Planning, said: “India is an important market for Air Canada, reflecting longstanding and growing family and trade ties between our two countries.”
