Air Canada has ordered eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with rights to purchase eight more. The airline says deliveries are planned to begin in 2030 and describes the aircraft as part of its fleet modernization and international growth plans. No routes or schedules for the A350-1000 have been announced.
What Air Canada ordered
Air Canada announced the agreement on February 11, 2026. It covers eight firm A350-1000s and purchase rights for an additional eight; those rights are not firm orders. The airline says first deliveries are planned for 2030. Air Canada’s announcement describes the deal as a next phase of fleet modernization and international network growth. Airbus reported the disclosed firm order the following day, noting it had been listed as undisclosed in November 2025. Airbus’s announcement confirms the eight-aircraft firm order.
Why the A350-1000 could expand long-haul options
Airbus gives the A350-1000 a stated range of up to 9,000 nautical miles. It says that range could support nonstop connections from Canada to high-growth markets in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia. These are potential markets in Airbus’s strategic framing, not announced Air Canada routes. Actual route decisions and operating capability depend on factors that the announcements do not detail.
Air Canada says the aircraft will support international network growth. Its current corporate profile describes the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as a long-range workhorse and says its international network serves six continents from hubs including Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver. That context helps explain why the A350 order matters to the airline’s widebody fleet, but the available announcements do not say which aircraft, if any, the A350-1000 will replace or which routes it will fly. Air Canada’s corporate profile may change as its fleet and network evolve.

What Airbus says about efficiency and fuel
Airbus says the A350-1000 offers lower operating costs and claims a 25% fuel-burn and emissions advantage compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft. Those are manufacturer claims, not reported Air Canada savings or independently verified operating results for this order. Airbus also says the aircraft is capable of using up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). That is an aircraft capability, not a disclosure of the fuel blend Air Canada will use. Airbus said it was targeting 100% SAF capability across its aircraft by 2030.
Airbus reported more than 1,500 orders for the A350 family from 67 customers at the end of January 2026. That figure applies to the A350 family, not just the A350-1000.

Air Canada executive Mark Galardo called the aircraft a “natural next step” in the fleet’s evolution and said it would bring improved efficiencies and new long-haul opportunities. Airbus executive Benoit de Saint-Exupéry described it as “the most technologically advanced widebody on the market”; that is Airbus’s promotional characterization, not an independent ranking.
