Air Canada’s Florida schedule changes reported in July 2026 are delayed seasonal starts, not cancellations: Ottawa–Fort Lauderdale, Quebec City–Orlando and Montreal–Palm Beach are now due to begin in December rather than October. Separately, the airline is suspending three Midwest routes for the winter. The available reports do not verify that a Florida route was cut just months after debut.
Is Air Canada cancelling Florida flights this winter?
Not according to the July 2026 reports on these schedule changes. They say three seasonal Florida services will start later than planned, in December instead of October. That is different from cancelling a route. The reports do not establish the status of any particular passenger’s booking, so travelers should check their itinerary directly with Air Canada.
The claim that Air Canada cancelled a Florida route a few months after its debut is not verified by the route-specific reporting available here. Neither the Canadian Press nor Global News describes one of the named Florida services as cancelled. The Canadian Press report carried by CityNews and Global News’ account instead describe delayed seasonal starts.
Which Florida routes are delayed, and when do they start?

Which Air Canada routes are suspended for winter?
The Canadian Press reported that Air Canada will halt these three Midwest routes for a second winter in a row:

It counts eight affected transborder routes overall when those three suspensions, the three delayed Florida starts and two Toronto/Montreal–JFK services not returning that winter are included. The Florida routes are delayed, not listed as cancelled.
Why did Air Canada change the schedule?
Air Canada said it regularly reviews schedules to align capacity with “customer demand and seasonal travel patterns.” Global News also reported that the Florida start dates were adjusted to align more closely with peak travel periods. The airline statement was attributed to Air Canada; the Canadian Press identified Angela Mah as the spokeswoman who provided it. The two reports reproduce the same explanation, not two separate reasons.

Broader travel figures provide context but do not prove why a particular route changed. The Associated Press reported that Canadian residents made 25% fewer return border crossings and spent about CA$3.3 billion less on travel to the United States in 2025 than in 2024, citing Statistics Canada. Visit Florida reported a 7% decline in Canadian visitors to Florida in 2025 compared with 2024. These figures describe wider travel patterns, not the cause of an individual schedule decision. The Associated Press’ travel report provides that broader context.
What should you do if your winter flight changed?
- Check your booking and current itinerary. Use Air Canada’s booking tools or contact the airline to confirm whether your specific flight date, route or connection has changed. A general report about a seasonal start does not confirm what happened to an individual reservation.
- Compare the new itinerary with your needs. If you are considering another flight, compare departure airport, nonstop versus connecting service, travel time, date availability, fare and change conditions.
- Ask the airline what options apply to your reservation. The July reports do not specify rebooking, refund or compensation terms for individual passengers. Confirm the options and deadlines directly with Air Canada rather than assuming a particular remedy.
- Review any travel-insurance policy on its own terms. The reports do not establish that a policy would cover a schedule change. Check the policy wording or ask the insurer before relying on reimbursement.
The cited reports do not provide a count of snowbirds or booked passengers affected, and they do not verify live availability or prices on other airlines. Any alternate itinerary should be checked for the traveler’s dates before making plans.

What this means for Canadian snowbirds
Travelers who expected one of the three seasonal Florida routes to operate in October or November may need to adjust dates or routing because the reported start moved to December. That is a practical concern, but it should not be confused with a route cancellation. For any specific trip, the booking record and Air Canada’s current schedule—not the broader route report—determine what the traveler needs to address.
