The company described its business as enterprise software for securing and governing organizations’ AI systems.
Who led Cranium’s $25 million Series A?
Cranium’s own announcement says Titanium Ventures led the round, with KPMG LLP and SYN Ventures participating. A PR Newswire version of the release, also published October 26, 2023, names Telstra Ventures as the lead investor instead. The available announcements do not explain the discrepancy, so the lead investor’s name is not consistent across the two accounts.
Cranium reported that the $25 million Series A brought its cumulative funding to $32 million as of the announcement. Those are figures reported by the company in 2023, not a current funding total.
What does Cranium do?
Cranium is an enterprise AI security and governance software company, not a maker of a consumer or physical AI product. The company describes its platform as helping organizations gain visibility into AI systems, apply safeguards, and provide security and risk teams with evidence related to AI trustworthiness and compliance. These are vendor descriptions; the funding announcement does not independently test the platform’s effectiveness or compare it with other products.

The company said it had worked with organizations in sectors including health sciences, financial services, consumer packaged goods, and retail. The release did not identify those customers or quantify adoption.
How did Cranium plan to use the funding?
Cranium said it intended to put the proceeds toward research and development, product development, business expansion, and go-to-market work such as sales and marketing. It also cited plans to increase visibility into AI security and provide additional support to teams and customers. These were announced intentions; the release does not establish how the money was ultimately spent.

How did Cranium become an independent company?
On April 5, 2023, KPMG announced that Cranium had spun out of KPMG Studio, where it had been developed. KPMG said it and SYN Ventures provided seed funding and took minority stakes in the company. Cranium’s current company page lists Titanium Ventures, KPMG, and SYN Ventures among its investors, but that listing does not establish present ownership, valuation, revenue, or corporate independence.
