In a May 2019 interview, Outreach CEO Manny Medina said the company’s $1.1 billion valuation brought pressure to deliver growth, but its new $114 million funding round did not set an IPO timetable. He described preparing for the demands of public-company operations while focusing on efficiency, retention and culture. Those figures and comments are historical, not an update on Outreach’s finances or IPO plans today.
What the 2019 funding round meant to Outreach
GeekWire’s Taylor Soper and Nat Levy interviewed Medina on May 16, 2019, after Outreach raised $114 million. GeekWire reported that the round valued the company at $1.1 billion. Medina said the valuation created pressure because it rested on revenue growth the company had yet to achieve: “The unicorn valuation is based on forward-looking revenue — it implies further growth on a number we haven’t hit yet.” Read the interview at GeekWire.
Medina framed the challenge as more than meeting a financial expectation. He said Outreach needed to build the product, culture and customer community that could underpin performance. In his words, “It creates an additional level of pressure,” he told GeekWire on Wednesday. These are his views as CEO in a 2019 interview, not a statement of the company’s present condition.
Why he linked IPO readiness to efficiency
Medina said Outreach was not profitable at the time of the interview. He described investing in efficiencies he expected might lead to profitability in a couple of years, while emphasizing that profitability was not imminent. That was his May 2019 outlook; it does not establish whether or when the company later became profitable.

He also said that “growth at all costs” was no longer the right approach. When asked what it would take to be ready for public markets, he named market efficiency, controlled spending, a credible path to profitability and strong customer retention. His summary was: “To be an IPO-ready company, you have to have market efficiency within a range, you have to have burn within a range, you have to have a path to profitability, you have to have top of the line retention, and so forth.” These priorities describe Medina’s perspective at that time, not a universal checklist or a current disclosure about Outreach.
The round did not set an IPO date
Medina said the financing gave Outreach room to prepare for public-company life at its own pace; it did not accelerate or establish a timetable for an IPO. He described operational work he believed the company needed to handle, including:
- Multicurrency invoicing.
- Tax entities in other countries.
- Language and cloud support.
- Responding to changing data-privacy and security rules.
These examples show the kinds of infrastructure Medina said Outreach was addressing in 2019. The interview does not establish the company’s current IPO intentions, listing status or readiness.
What Medina said about culture and hiring
Medina described a culture grounded in honesty, transparency, grit, energy and passion. He said he sought a balance of qualities while wanting more people who brought energy to a group. That is one leader’s account of his preferences and approach—not evidence that these traits are a validated hiring formula or that every organization should use the same criteria.

Outreach’s scale then and its product positioning now
GeekWire reported that Outreach began in 2011 as the technical recruiting startup GroupTalent and pivoted in 2014 to build tools for salespeople. For 2019, the publication reported more than 3,300 customer accounts, over 50,000 users and 350 employees, with a stated goal of reaching 450 employees by year-end. These are historical figures reported in that article, not current company metrics.
Outreach’s current glossary describes its offering as a Sales Execution Platform combining sales engagement, revenue intelligence and revenue operations. The company says more than 5,500 companies—including Zoom, Adobe, Okta, DocuSign and SAP—depend on the platform. That is a company-published figure and description, not independent customer research. See Outreach’s glossary.
Official release notes dated 2026 document continued product development, including AI agents and integrations. They establish product activity, but do not answer questions about the company’s financial condition, IPO plans or public-listing status. View Outreach’s release notes.
