The useful way to find an affordable option is to compare the total for the same quantity and suite contents—including paper, printing upgrades, addressing, shipping, tax and postage—not a vendor’s lowest advertised per-card price. Zola, Shutterfly, Paper Culture, Minted and Zazzle are providers to compare, not an independently tested ranking.
What wedding invitations cost—and what the estimates mean
Zola Expert Wedding Advice, in an article updated February 19, 2026, estimates that an invitation suite averages $400–$600. Zola also describes DIY templates with digital printing at about $200 and custom designs with letterpress or foil at $700 or more. These are Zola’s estimates, not results from an independent market-wide price survey, and the options described are not necessarily equivalent orders. See Zola’s wedding invitation cost guide.
A displayed price per card may cover only one invitation, while a suite can include additional pieces such as an RSVP card and details card. Quantity, design, paper, printing method, shape, addressing and delivery all affect the amount you pay. Compare configured orders with matching contents before deciding which is more affordable.

| Provider | What the available information supports | What to verify before comparing |
|---|---|---|
| Zola | Broad stationery collection; advertises up to five free invitation samples and free guest and return addressing. Indexed examples showed some invitations around $1.79 each for upload-your-own and $1.99 for several named designs. | Live price for your design, quantity and suite contents; sample eligibility; addressing terms; shipping and delivery. |
| Shutterfly | Broad invitation catalog with multiple cardstock types. The vendor describes standard smooth cardstock as an affordable option. | Use a live configured quote: indexed results contained inconsistent starting-price statements, so they do not establish a definitive current starting price. |
| Paper Culture | Publishes a comparison with Zazzle, Minted, Shutterfly and Zola, and advertises free samples and address printing. | Its comparison footnote uses each company’s first-listed invitation and standard paper, so it is not a comprehensive market-wide comparison. Confirm current service terms and compare your own configuration. |
| Minted | Its 2026 cost guide identifies cardstock, printing style and shape as price factors. It lists Premium Paper at $1.75 extra per card and foil-pressed lettering customization at $75 for almost all designs. | Whether those upgrades suit your design and order; current price and any other fees. These are vendor-specific figures, not evidence that Minted has the lowest total. |
| Zazzle | Included in Paper Culture’s comparison. | Current configured price, paper and printing options, suite contents, samples, delivery and customization. The available information does not establish an independently verified price or quality recommendation. |
Price examples and upgrade amounts can change. For instance, Zola’s indexed examples are not a guaranteed live quote, and Shutterfly’s conflicting search snippets make a headline starting price especially unreliable. Check the vendor’s current product page and checkout for your order.
How to compare invitations on a true like-for-like basis
- Set the quantity and suite contents. Compare the same number of invitations and the same pieces—invitation only, or invitation plus RSVP and details cards. Plan household by household rather than assuming one invitation per guest; check your own guest list and add extras for your needs.
- Match the format and paper. Record the invitation size, stock weight and finish. A standard smooth stock and a premium paper are different configurations, even if the design looks similar online.
- Match the print method and personalization. Compare flat printing with any foil, letterpress or other paid finish, and note customization limits. Minted’s published upgrade figures illustrate how a per-card paper charge or a lettering fee can change the total.
- Include envelopes and addressing. Check whether envelopes are included, whether guest and return addressing cost extra, and whether any free-addressing offer applies to your order. If buying envelopes separately, match their size to the selected card.
- Check samples, proofs and delivery. Where available, order a sample and inspect legibility, paper feel, color and envelope fit before committing to a large order. Confirm proof options, shipping charges, delivery timing and current sample eligibility at checkout.
- Compare the final amount. Separate any discount from the regular configured price, and identify whether tax and postage are included. Add postage as a reader-specific cost rather than assuming it is covered in a vendor’s invitation quote.

Keep the quantity and suite contents fixed when you compare vendors. If one quote includes addressing or an RSVP card and another does not, record the difference rather than treating the lower subtotal as the better deal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When a lower price is—and isn’t—a saving
Standard paper and flat printing can be a sensible way to limit upgrades, but a lower-priced invitation-only order is not comparable to a higher-priced suite with extra cards or addressing. Decide which pieces and finishes matter to you, then compare the total for that exact combination. A sample can help you judge print legibility and paper feel before placing the full order; it is a check you can do yourself, not a substitute for matching the quote details.
