Re:

AEW or WWE? What Andrade’s Contract Dispute Means—and Where He Is Now

Andrade’s current AEW activity is confirmed by the promotion. The 2025 contract dispute remains partly unclear: Andrade disputed signing, while later reports described his WWE deal’s expiration and a non-compete waiver.

Andrade El Ídolo is currently active with AEW: the promotion’s roster lists him as AEW National Champion, and its results page records a September 2026 title defense and a planned match with PAC at All Out. The contract uncertainty that prompted the “chaos” headlines dates to 2025. Andrade disputed claims that he had already signed with AEW; later reporting said his WWE deal expired and a non-compete restriction was waived. The underlying agreements and negotiations have not been made public.

Where Andrade stands now

AEW’s official roster page identifies Andrade as “AEW NATIONAL CHAMPION.” AEW’s official results index lists September 19, 2026 results stating that he retained the AEW National Championship and would face PAC at All Out. Those current promotion pages establish his AEW activity; they do not disclose the terms of any contract.

What happened in the contract dispute

WWE departure and AEW appearance

In October 2025, Andrade appeared on AEW programming after leaving WWE. WrestleTalk later reported that he was taken off AEW television amid a dispute over a reported non-compete restriction. The account describes the sequence, but does not establish the restriction’s exact language or provide the contract itself. WrestleTalk’s March 2026 report

Andrade said he had not signed an AEW contract

On November 30, 2025, VICE reported Andrade’s public response to claims that he had signed with AEW. Andrade wrote that he had not signed a contract, while also saying he had been in negotiations with Tony Khan and the AEW team and that they had reached “an excellent agreement.” His statement is evidence of his account of the discussions, not independent confirmation of a signed deal or its terms. Later reporting said the WWE deal had expired

On December 22, 2025, Wrestleview, relaying Fightful Select, reported that Andrade was free to sign with any promotion and that his WWE deal had officially expired around December 12. The report also said people close to the situation described a waiver of the non-compete. This is secondary reporting; no public contract, formal waiver, WWE statement, or court finding in the cited material independently establishes the details. Wrestleview’s report

Why WWE’s 2021 release is a separate event

WWE announced Andrade’s release on March 21, 2021, saying it had “come to terms on the release of Andrade.” That announcement is historical background, not evidence about the separate 2025 departure and contract dispute. WWE’s profile says Andrade returned in the 2024 Royal Rumble Match, but a profile page is not proof of an active WWE contract. WWE’s 2021 release statement · WWE’s Andrade profile

What is confirmed, and what remains unclear

  • Confirmed by AEW’s current pages: Andrade is listed as AEW National Champion, with recent title activity in AEW’s results index.
  • Andrade’s stated position: He said in November 2025 that he had not signed an AEW contract, while describing negotiations and an agreement in principle as he understood them.
  • Reported, not independently documented here: Wrestleview’s December 2025 account, relaying Fightful Select, said his WWE deal expired around December 12 and that the non-compete was waived.
  • Not established in the cited material: the contracts’ terms, the restriction’s precise wording, whether any party breached an agreement, and the private cause of the dispute.

“Contract chaos” is a headline description, not a legal finding. The public record supports a timeline of competing claims and later AEW activity, but it does not support a definitive account of private negotiations.
