Adidas Originals’ Into the Metaverse (ITM) was a 2021 NFT project that paired digital tokens with access to exclusive physical merchandise. Adidas said matching physical products would be available to NFT owners in 2022; its project history later connected the merch claim to a Phase 2 NFT, then to digital wearables and ALTS by adidas. The launch offer was time-bound, and official pages reviewed do not establish that the original merch can still be claimed or bought.
What Adidas promised with Into the Metaverse
Adidas announced Into the Metaverse in December 2021 with Bored Ape Yacht Club, gmoney and Punks Comic. The project was presented as a combination of digital and physical products, rather than a conventional clothing release. Adidas said NFT owners would have access to physical products designed to match the digital experience in 2022. Adidas’ launch material described the planned connection between token ownership and merchandise.
In practical terms, the NFT was intended to serve as an eligibility key for limited collaborative merchandise. It was not a promise that every Adidas product drop would be available to token holders, nor did it mean ordinary Adidas Originals apparel was part of the limited collection.
How the project moved from merchandise to digital wearables
Merchandise claims and Phase 2
Adidas’ project history says holders received a Phase 2 NFT when they claimed merchandise. That makes the physical-merch claim a milestone in the project’s sequence, not evidence that the same claim remains open today. The official project history describes this transition.

Virtual Gear
On November 16, 2022, Adidas announced Virtual Gear, its first collection of blockchain-based virtual wearables. Adidas described the release as 16 pieces. Its release information said Phase 2 Capsule NFT holders could reveal the piece allocated to them. The brand called Virtual Gear a new interoperable product category. ALTS by adidas
Adidas later described ALTS by adidas as the third and final phase of the Into the Metaverse journey. Its reveal page calls the reveal final and describes ALTS as a collection of 20,066 unique digital avatars, with more than 250 traits and more than 80 digital wearables. Those figures belong to ALTS and should not be confused with the separate 16-piece Virtual Gear collection. Adidas names marketplaces, including Magic Eden, as a place to view the avatars; that does not establish current holder benefits or availability. Does owning an Into the Metaverse NFT unlock Adidas merch drops now?
The official pages reviewed document the original merchandise offer for 2022 and subsequent project milestones, but they do not confirm that the historical merch is still claimable or available for purchase. They also do not establish that ITM NFT ownership currently unlocks Adidas product drops.
That distinction matters because Adidas’ CONFIRMED app describes a separate set of limited-release formats: raffles, queues and invitations. Some events are limited to selected locations. The app’s release process is not the same eligibility mechanism as the historical ITM token-linked merchandise offer, and the available information does not connect current app releases to ITM ownership. What to check before paying for a related NFT or item
If you are considering an ITM NFT because you want merchandise access, do not treat the original launch language as a current redemption offer. Check the exact token, official project updates and the terms for any specific claim before spending money. An NFT listing or a seller’s claim about benefits does not, by itself, verify that a redemption remains active.
- Confirm whether the specific item is a digital token, a physical collectible, or ordinary Adidas Originals apparel.
- Look for current, official instructions that explicitly state the benefit, eligible tokens, deadlines and claim process.
- For a CONFIRMED release, check the event’s own eligibility rules and location limits rather than assuming historic NFT ownership grants access.
These checks are particularly important because the documented phases describe past project benefits; they do not guarantee that a holder can claim merchandise, receive future airdrops or enter present-day product launches.
