Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) published a recall notice on 28 May 2025 for a specific product: a2 Light Milk (2L) marked USE BY 06/06 #41. The notice says it was sold through retail outlets in Western Australia and identifies possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Do not eat the affected product; return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Which a2 milk was recalled?

The recall applies to a2 Light Milk (2L) carrying the date mark USE BY 06/06 #41. FSANZ says it was available at retail outlets in Western Australia. The stated hazard was microbial contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. See the FSANZ recall alert, published 28 May 2025, which also links to the notice PDF.

This notice does not identify all a2 products, other date marks, or milk sold in every Australian state. It does not state how many units were affected or report a number of illnesses.

What should I do if I bought the affected a2 Light Milk?

  1. Check the label. Confirm that the product is a2 Light Milk (2L) and that its date mark reads USE BY 06/06 #41.
  2. Do not consume it. FSANZ advises consumers not to eat the product.
  3. Return it to the place of purchase. The notice says customers can receive a full refund.
  4. Seek medical advice if concerned about your health. If you need to contact the company, FSANZ lists 1800 22 4632.

Who may be at greater risk from Listeria?

FSANZ warns that severe illness may occur in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, older people, and people who are immunocompromised. It also notes that people in the general population can become ill after consuming contaminated food. Anyone concerned about their health should follow the notice’s advice to seek medical guidance.

Is this the same as the later a2 formula recall?

No. A separate recall covered three batches of a2 Platinum Premium USA-label infant formula for ages 0–12 months, because of cereulide, a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus. The FDA notice lists that recall as completed and terminated. In a 4 May 2026 market release, a2 said the recall was limited to the USA-label formula and that a2 Platinum sold outside the United States was unaffected. That was a different product, hazard, market, and event from the 2025 Western Australian milk recall.

Has the 2025 milk recall been formally closed?

The FSANZ alert dated 28 May 2025 provides the recall instructions described above. The available notice does not establish whether FSANZ or the company later declared the milk recall complete, so it should not be described as either currently active or formally closed on that basis alone.
