Remitly opened its new headquarters at Rainier Square in downtown Seattle in May 2025, moving three blocks from its former office at 1111 3rd Ave. The space spans floors eight through 10 and pairs globally themed design with places for meetings, quiet work and informal gathering. The company’s reported in-office policy and planned expansion below are details from May 2025, not confirmation of its current arrangements.

Where is Remitly’s new headquarters?

The headquarters is in Rainier Square, in downtown Seattle. Remitly moved there after several years at 1111 3rd Ave.; the relocation covered three blocks. GeekWire reported the opening on May 30, 2025. At that time, the company occupied floors eight, nine and 10 of the building. GeekWire’s office tour described the move as a short change of address with a larger purpose: creating more room to collaborate and grow.

What does the office look like?

The office’s design draws on the global communities Remitly serves. GeekWire described regional themes spanning North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia, expressed through screens, textiles, furniture, wallpaper, artwork, lighting and plants. Meeting rooms are named after cities. A tea-leaf-wrapped wall and a video wall at the 10th-floor reception add distinctive details to the space.

Heather Rogers, Remitly’s principal program manager for real estate, called the office “a bold expression of our mission and our tribute to the global communities we serve.” She said the details were considered to connect the workplace to the company’s purpose.

How is the space intended to support different kinds of work?

The office combines shared spaces with quieter places to concentrate. GeekWire’s tour noted meeting rooms, conference spaces, dining areas, private booths, quiet rooms and gathering spaces. A low-lit focus area is called “The Cave.” The layout suggests an effort to accommodate both group interaction and individual work, rather than treating the office as one uniform workspace; the report does not establish measured productivity outcomes.

CEO and co-founder Matt Oppenheimer said some work is done more effectively when people are together. He also said employees do not need to be in person all the time, but that having a space designed for collaboration helps when they are. The office’s mix of settings reflects that stated approach: dedicated areas for collaboration alongside options for focused work.

What was Remitly’s reported hybrid-work policy?

GeekWire reported in May 2025 that Remitly required employees to spend 50% of their time in the office. That is a dated report, not a verified statement of the company’s policy today.

For context only, Flex Index’s May 2025 preview of its Q2 report said 43% of U.S. firms followed structured-hybrid policies; among those firms, 66% required three days in the office. The preview also reported that 33% of U.S. firms required full-time office attendance and put the national average requirement at 2.82 office days per week. Those are figures about U.S. firms overall, not Remitly. Flex Index’s report preview provides that broader context.

How large was the office, and what expansion was planned?

At the time of GeekWire’s May 2025 report, Remitly had 2,800 employees worldwide and more than 500 in Seattle. The headquarters occupied three floors. The report said the company planned to add floor seven the following year, providing capacity for 220 additional workstations. That was a plan stated in 2025; the article does not establish whether the expansion was completed.

Oppenheimer described the new space as “a huge energizer for thinking about what’s next.” Chief Product and Technology Officer Ankur Sinha also spoke about the workplace in terms of recruiting engineers and supporting retention, citing flexibility, collaboration and focus spaces. Those comments describe company leaders’ views, not independently measured results.

What Remitly said about downtown Seattle

Remitly said it cared about downtown safety and public transportation and wanted to work with the city on those issues. That was the company’s stated position in the May 2025 report; it does not document specific city programs or outcomes.
