Has Sheffield Wednesday been taken over?
Yes. The joint administrators announced on 5 May 2026 that the sale of Sheffield Wednesday’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC had completed. The EFL had said by 2 May that the transfer had been agreed and that, under the new ownership, the club met the relevant League requirements and was no longer regarded as being in administration. The EFL’s update and the administrators’ completion statement describe the regulatory status and completed sale, respectively.
Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?
The buyer named by the EFL is Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The transaction transferred the club’s assets. The official statements cited here do not disclose a purchase price, investment amount, debt settlement or financing commitments, so none can be established from them.
Will Sheffield Wednesday receive a 15-point deduction?
The EFL Board decided that it would not be appropriate to impose a further 15-point deduction following the club’s exit from administration. The 15 points refer to the proposed additional post-administration deduction discussed by the EFL; they do not describe every deduction in the club’s history. In its 2 May statement, the league said: “This decision has been made by the Board after considering the proposals made to Mr Chansiri by the joint Administrators and new ownership.” The EFL’s statement on the decision sets out its reasoning.

Does a later company filing mean there has been another takeover?
Not on the evidence of the filings alone. Companies House records for Wednesday 1867 Limited include an SH01 statement of capital filed on 2 October 2026 for an allotment dated 1 September 2026. The history also lists a 5 August 2026 filing changing details for SWFC Sports Holdings 2026 Limited as a person with significant control. These are corporate filings, not an announcement that another sale took place. Wednesday 1867 Limited’s filing history can be checked directly.

The May sale followed a period of administration. On 24 October 2025, the EFL said it had received formal notice that administrators were being appointed to both the club and the company that owns Hillsborough. The EFL’s October 2025 statement records that earlier step.

A future change of control would be subject to regulatory processes, not established merely by a company filing. The EFL’s acquisition-of-control guidance says a potential takeover must meet both Independent Football Regulator and EFL requirements, and describes the Owners’ and Directors’ regime (ODSE) as introduced from 5 May 2026.
