Switch founder and CEO Rob Roy rang the New York Stock Exchange opening bell on October 6, 2017, the first day Switch shares traded publicly. The archival gallery shows Roy with family members and colleagues, though its text does not identify them by name.
What the photos show
Data Center Knowledge published the photo gallery on October 13, 2017. Its caption identifies Roy as ringing the NYSE opening bell on October 6, 2017, and the accompanying text says he was joined by family members and colleagues. The gallery credits the opening-bell image to NYSE Group. The available captions do not name the other attendees, so their identities cannot be confirmed from the gallery.
At the time, Roy was Switch’s founder and CEO. Data Center Knowledge described Switch as the “sixth US-based publicly traded data center provider”; that was the publication’s characterization in 2017, not a current ranking.
First day of trading versus IPO closing
October 6 was Switch’s NYSE debut and the first day its Class A shares traded under the ticker SWCH. The IPO’s legal closing took place on October 11, 2017. These dates refer to different milestones, which is why accounts may call October 6 the IPO day while the company’s filing records October 11 as the closing date.
