They initially thought they had won just $500; Lotterywest revealed the actual prize when the couple visited its Winners Room.
Where was the winning Lotto ticket bought?
The winning Slikpik 12 was purchased at Glengarry Lottery Centre & News in Duncraig, according to Lotterywest’s 9 January 2024 announcement and its 10 January account of the claim. The retailer’s location identifies where this particular entry was sold; it is not evidence that buying a ticket there improves anyone’s chance of winning.
How did the couple discover the prize?
The husband first checked the ticket through his Lotterywest account and thought it had won $500. Lotterywest’s account says the ticket was registered to a membership account, enabling the operator to contact the ticket holder. The couple learned the amount was $1 million at Lotterywest’s Winners Room. The wife was quoted as saying, “I’m in shock, I had no idea.” Her husband recalled, “I logged on to my account and checked the ticket, then I laughed some more.”
What were the draw details?
Lotterywest reported that the draw took place on Monday and that this was the first WA Lotto winner of 2024. Its 9 January announcement said the couple held the only Division One-winning ticket across Australia in that draw. The winning numbers were 2, 4, 27, 32, 36 and 41.

What Lotterywest said about WA winners
In the 9 January 2024 announcement, Lotterywest spokesperson Emma Rogers said 83 West Australians had bought Division One-winning tickets in 2023, which the operator described as the highest number on record since 2016. That is Lotterywest’s statement about its own historical count, not a measure of an individual player’s odds.
