A Kenwick man in his 60s initially thought he had won $920 on a Saturday Superdraw ticket. He had missed one of the winning numbers when checking it; when he returned to the newsagency later that week, staff told him he had actually won the $2.5 million division one prize, according to PerthNow’s 5 September 2024 report.
How did he mistake the $2.5 million win for $920?
The winner said he initially believed he had matched five numbers and was pleased with the $920 he thought he had won. After returning to the newsagency later that week, staff told him he had in fact won division one.
“I thought I had five of the numbers and won $920, which I was very happy about,” he said.
“I went back to the newsagency later that week and was in complete shock when the staff told me I had actually won $2.5 million.”
