The Nintendo Switch 2 launch preorder window is over: U.S. retail preorders began April 24, 2025, and the console launched June 5, 2025. If you are shopping now, use Nintendo’s official retailer-discovery page to find current listings, compare the full cost and seller, and avoid paying a reseller premium before checking for replenishment. Nintendo’s U.S. system MSRP is $499.99, effective September 1, 2026, but retailers set their own prices and current stock must be confirmed directly.
What changed since the launch preorder?
Nintendo announced U.S. retail preorders for April 24, 2025, ahead of the June 5, 2025 launch. That preorder window is historical, not an active queue. See Nintendo’s launch announcement for the original dates.

As of September 1, 2026, Nintendo of America lists the U.S. system MSRP as $499.99, up from $449.99. This is a reference price, not a guarantee of availability or the price every retailer will charge. Check the live listing, including who is actually selling the console, before placing an order. Nintendo explains the change in its price revision announcement.
Where to check for legitimate availability
- Open Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch 2 product page and follow its retailer-discovery path.
- Check the listed retailers’ own websites or apps for a current console listing. Nintendo’s retail offers page identifies participating retailers and specific offers, but offers can be limited by timing and supply.
- Confirm that the listing is for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, note the seller and fulfillment method, and review the delivery or pickup estimate and cancellation terms.
No named retailer’s current inventory is established here, so treat stock claims as time-sensitive and verify them on the retailer’s channel. Nintendo’s hardware catalog lists the console at $499.99 and, as accessed October 8, 2026, a Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector at $39.99. Those catalog prices are snapshots, not permanent guarantees.

How to compare a listing without overpaying
Before checkout, compare the complete offer rather than the headline price. A higher-priced bundle may include items you actually want, while a marketplace listing may involve a different seller, delivery schedule, or return arrangement than a retailer’s direct sale.
- Total delivered price: Add shipping and applicable tax, then compare the result with the $499.99 U.S. MSRP.
- Seller identity: Check whether the retailer itself or a third-party marketplace seller is responsible for the sale.
- Fulfillment: Compare the stated delivery date with store pickup availability and timing.
- Order terms: Read cancellation and refund terms before paying.
- Bundle contents: Identify what is included and decide whether those items justify any added cost.

Practical steps for a restock or future preorder
Preparation can reduce checkout friction, but it cannot guarantee stock or defeat automated buyers. For a legitimate restock or a future product preorder, use these steps:
- Set up or confirm your account with the retailer you plan to use, and make sure your shipping and payment details are current.
- Decide whether you prefer delivery or pickup, and have a backup retailer in mind using Nintendo’s official retailer path.
- Follow Nintendo and retailer notices. Act on a listing confirmed through the retailer’s own website or app rather than an unverified social post or third-party “instant stock” claim.
- Use the retailer’s normal checkout process. Avoid automation that violates retailer terms.
- If the item sells out, recheck official retailer channels for replenishment before deciding whether a resale listing is worth its full cost and risks.
What the launch-period bot reports do—and do not—show
Scalper and bot disruption was documented during the 2025 launch period, not as a measure of current stock conditions. The Associated Press reported overwhelming demand, online sellouts, delays and some cancellations on April 24, 2025. It also reported that GameStop Help said it would continue canceling bot and duplicate orders to reopen inventory. That is a report of GameStop’s launch-period response, not evidence of a current or continuing policy at that retailer or elsewhere. Read the Associated Press coverage.

Nintendo separately announced cooperation with Mercari, LY Corporation and Rakuten Group to prevent improper listings of Nintendo-related products, including Switch 2, on their marketplace services. The initiative concerns those services in Japan; it is not a universal resale ban and should not be assumed to cover U.S. platforms. Nintendo described it in its May 27, 2025 announcement.
Do not confuse software preorder timing with hardware orders
Nintendo’s support guidance distinguishes digital eShop game preorders from physical-item pre-purchases through Nintendo Store. Eligible digital eShop preorder payments are processed no earlier than seven days before release. Physical-item pre-purchases through Nintendo Store are charged immediately and ship one to three business days after release. These terms do not establish how a hardware order at another retailer will be charged or fulfilled; check that retailer’s own checkout and order terms.
