By February 2026, it was reported live across Bengaluru, with a model that does not charge restaurants commission but does charge customers a distance-based delivery fee. The latest reported scale is more than 50,000 daily orders in the city, according to sources cited by Moneycontrol in August 2026.
What Rapido tested—and where
On August 13, 2025, TechCrunch reported that Rapido was beta-testing Ownly in three Bengaluru areas: BTM Layout (including Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madiwala), HSR Layout, and Koramangala. Rapido co-founder and CEO Aravind Sanka confirmed the test to the publication. The service was being run through Ctrlx Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary set up for the business. TechCrunch’s report described an initial neighborhood trial, not an India-wide rollout.
How Ownly’s reported fee model works
Business Standard reported on February 6, 2026, that Ownly had gone live across Bengaluru after a six-month pilot. It described a model in which restaurants pay no commission and customers pay a standard delivery fee based on distance. So “no commission” for restaurants does not mean delivery is free for customers.
The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which co-organized a town hall about the initiative, called it a “zero-commission, flat-fee food delivery model” and said it “enables 100% order value retention, zero platform fees, and no forced discounting.” That is NRAI’s description of the model, not an independently audited finding about every restaurant’s results. Its event summary described movement from a pilot across three Bengaluru pin codes toward a full-city launch and a planned pan-India rollout; the plan does not establish that a national rollout occurred.

For restaurants, avoiding platform commission and forced discounts may make the arrangement attractive. For diners, the relevant comparison is the final checkout total: delivery fees, discounts, and any other charges matter more than a platform’s headline fee claim.
What is known about Ownly’s scale
On August 21, 2026, Moneycontrol reported more than 50,000 Ownly orders a day in Bengaluru, citing people familiar with company performance. The same report estimated that the city handles 500,000–600,000 food-delivery orders daily. Both figures are attributed estimates reported by Moneycontrol, not audited order counts or market statistics. Moneycontrol’s account is evidence of reported city-level traction, but it is not a like-for-like comparison with Swiggy or Zomato.

How Rapido is positioned against Swiggy and Zomato
Ownly enters a market where Swiggy and Zomato are established food-delivery platforms. Rapido’s reported pitch is a different restaurant-fee structure, paired with a customer delivery charge. Whether that is a better deal depends on the order, neighborhood, restaurant selection, delivery availability, discounts, and total checkout price.
TechCrunch reported that Rapido intended to use its two-wheeler fleet for food delivery alongside taxi and courier services. It also relayed an unnamed investor’s claims that Ownly would limit distant restaurant listings and curate menu items to manage delivery economics. Those operational details were reported as investor claims, not confirmed in an official Rapido document. The same story reported, also citing an investor, that Rapido had handled deliveries for Swiggy and that an agreement restricted contracts with Zomato or other competitors. That is a sensitive contractual claim attributed to an unnamed source, not a publicly verified contract term.

What customers and restaurants should compare
- Customer cost: Compare the full checkout amount, including distance-based delivery fees and discounts, for the same type of order.
- Restaurant economics: Ask what the restaurant pays and retains under the actual arrangement; a zero-commission description does not by itself establish the full commercial terms or outcomes.
- Local usefulness: Check whether the app serves your neighborhood and lists the restaurants and menu items you want.
- Service performance: Compare availability and delivery times for your own location and ordering times rather than assuming citywide availability means equal coverage everywhere.
- Evidence quality: Treat reported order volumes as attributed figures; the cited reports do not provide controlled, comparable performance data for Ownly, Swiggy, and Zomato.
What the timeline says about a wider rollout
The clearest documented sequence is a three-area Bengaluru beta in August 2025, followed by a reported citywide Bengaluru launch in February 2026. NRAI described a pan-India rollout as planned, but the available reporting cited here does not verify that it took place. Ownly’s national availability should therefore not be inferred from the Bengaluru launch.
