Birmingham City were reportedly preparing a £3m move for Celtic winger Yang Hyun-jun, but the deal did not go through. The figure comes from secondary reporting, not a fee confirmed by either club in the sources reviewed.
What was the reported fee?
Celtic Shorts reported on 22 May 2026 that Birmingham City’s proposed deal for Yang was worth £3m: Celtic Shorts’ report. That is the only reviewed source giving an amount. Celtic’s account of the deadline-day approach and BBC Sport’s coverage do not state a fee, so £3m should be described as a reported proposed figure, not an officially confirmed transfer price.
Did the transfer happen?
No. Celtic said Yang was at Birmingham City on transfer deadline day, and manager Martin O’Neill said he was pleased the move did not go through. Celtic’s account and BBC Sport’s report both describe the failed move. As a result, Birmingham did not complete a transfer at the reported £3m figure.
What happened to Yang after the failed move?
On 22 May 2026, Celtic announced that Yang had signed a new contract running through 2030. In the club’s announcement, Yang said, “I love this club and my future is here.”

Yang had joined Celtic from Gangwon FC in July 2023 on a five-year contract. Celtic’s announcement of his arrival did not disclose a transfer fee: Celtic’s 2023 signing announcement.
