Members earn BluChips mainly on eligible flight spending and can redeem them toward IndiGo flights, but the actual earn rate depends on tier, booking channel and eligible charges. “No blackout dates” does not mean every seat is guaranteed, and taxes, fees and add-ons still cost money.
What IndiGo announced—and what the program is called
IndiGo’s August 5, 2024 announcement introduced IndiGo BluChip (not “BlueChip,” the spelling in the original topic title). Early registration opened that day, with a planned September 2024 launch. The release described spend-based flight earning, flight redemption, tier progression, extra earning on direct web and app bookings, daily tier-upgrade reviews, up to five nominees and point validity for active members. These were launch-era statements; the airline’s current program pages and terms give the more precise rules below.
IndiGo’s current overview promotes earning up to 16 BluChips per ₹100 on flights and up to 12 per ₹100 on select 6E add-ons. The headline flight rate is a maximum, not the rate every member earns on every booking.
How earning rates and tiers work
The current tier and benefits table breaks flight earning into a base rate, a tier bonus and a direct-channel bonus. The base rate is 8 BluChips per ₹100 of base fare plus fuel surcharge. Eligible IndiGo web and app bookings add 4 per ₹100; Blu 2 adds a 2-point tier bonus, and Blu 1 adds a 4-point tier bonus. Actual earning therefore varies with the member’s tier, channel and eligible fare components.

The qualifying-spend calculation is limited to the fare components specified in IndiGo’s tier table and terms; do not assume that every rupee on a booking counts. IndiGo says upgrades are reviewed daily against the preceding 365 days. Retention is reviewed at the tier anniversary against the preceding 365 days. Add-on earning also applies only to select eligible items.
How to redeem BluChips—and what they cover
Members can redeem through the IndiGo website or mobile app after signing in, as described in the airline’s BluChip FAQ. Redemption can use points alone or points plus cash, starting at a balance of 500 BluChips. IndiGo advertises no blackout dates and redemption up to the last available seat, subject to eligible-flight rules and seat availability. That is not a guarantee that every flight or seat can be booked with points.

- BluChips cannot be redeemed for cash, and a redemption booking does not earn BluChips.
- You may redeem for yourself or a nominee. The program allows up to five nominees, but points cannot be transferred as currency.
When BluChips expire
The launch announcement referred to “lifetime validity for active members,” and the current overview similarly says points remain valid while a member is active. The detailed program terms specify the rule: BluChips are valid for 24 calendar months from the date of the last accrual activity. Use that stated activity-based period rather than treating “active” as indefinite validity; check the terms for how an accrual is defined and recorded.
Partner earning and the IndiGo SBI cards
Partner participation and earning conditions are not uniform. IndiGo’s FY2024–25 annual-report listing names Swiggy, Accor Hotels, EaseMyTrip, The Postcard and AirportZo as examples of earning partners, while the current terms say partner conditions vary and may be updated. Check the live partner terms before relying on a named partner or assuming its earlier arrangement still applies.

On September 25, 2025, SBI Card announced the IndiGo SBI Card and IndiGo SBI Card ELITE as BluChip-linked products. Its release advertised up to 29,000 bonus BluChips per year, an issuer-stated maximum rather than a guaranteed return. Current fees, eligibility, reward rates and conditions should be checked against the issuer’s live product terms before applying. IndiGo’s March 25, 2025 update said the program had passed 2 million members within its first six months and described partners as forthcoming at that time; that dated statement does not establish current partner availability.

A large points-per-rupee headline alone does not show what a BluChip is worth. IndiGo’s published material does not establish a universal cash value per point, and the value of a redemption depends on the route, date and points price. Compare the details that affect your own travel:

- Which parts of the fare qualify for earning, and whether you usually book through IndiGo’s web or app channel.
- The points required for the routes and dates you actually fly, along with seat availability and the cash taxes, fees and extras due.
- Whether you can meet the rolling 12-month spend and flight thresholds for Blu 2 or Blu 1.
- Whether your accrual activity fits the 24-calendar-month validity rule.
- Whether partner or card earning is useful after considering its specific conditions, fees and restrictions.
IndiGo’s launch release quoted Neetan Chopra, then the airline’s Chief Digital and Information Officer, describing BluChip as a “hassle-free, innovative and customer centric loyalty program.” That is the airline’s promotional positioning, not independent evidence that it offers better value than another airline program.
