It then said it intended to seek licences for two Guernsey routes and described a goal of secure, year-round connectivity. That is an announced plan, not proof that the licences were approved or that every route has a permanent, guaranteed timetable. For passengers, the distinction matters: replacement flights helped restore travel quickly, but a proposed service is not the same as an authorised, currently scheduled one.
How Loganair stepped in after Blue Islands stopped flying
Blue Islands announced on 14 November 2025 that all future services were cancelled. The UK Civil Aviation Authority records that the airline ceased operations that day and was later placed in liquidation. The Government of Jersey issued passenger advice and worked with Ports of Jersey on contingency arrangements.
Loganair started replacement flying on 16 November. The initial routes listed by the Jersey Government were Jersey–Guernsey, Jersey–Exeter, Jersey–Bristol, Jersey–Southampton, and Guernsey–Southampton. A two-day transition was unusually rapid, but it did not mean every former Blue Islands flight or frequency was necessarily restored at once. The government later said Loganair’s final proposal envisaged a substantially similar schedule within 48 hours if Blue Islands entered liquidation; that was a proposal described retrospectively, not a guarantee of full frequencies on every route.
For the dated route list and passenger advice, see the Government of Jersey’s 14 November 2025 notice and its 25 November statement and timeline. Loganair’s own account of its entry and subsequent plans is in its 5 December 2025 announcement.

What Loganair said about staying longer term
On 5 December 2025, Loganair said it intended to apply for licences for Guernsey–Jersey and Guernsey–Southampton, with the stated aim of providing secure, year-round island connections. CEO Luke Farajallah said: “A competitive, multi-carrier environment will strengthen long-term resilience, improve affordability, and safeguard essential connectivity for islanders.” This was the airline’s rationale for the proposed licence applications.
The distinction is important: Loganair’s announcement establishes an intention to apply, not a final licence decision. The information available here does not establish whether those specific applications were ultimately approved or what permanent timetable, if any, was authorised. Nor does a long-term commitment to serving the islands mean every proposed route is guaranteed to operate indefinitely. Passengers should check the airline’s live booking information and relevant licensing updates before relying on a particular route or frequency.

Why Jersey selected Loganair’s proposal
The Government of Jersey said its options analysis judged Loganair the lowest-cost and best airline proposal for securing regional air links. It pointed to the airline’s scale, resilience, expansion prospects, and financial sustainability, and recorded commitments including consumer guarantees and a replacement aircraft within four hours of a technical delay. Those are the government’s stated assessment and recorded proposal commitments, not an independent finding that every performance outcome is assured.
The transition also involved public support for Blue Islands. Jersey’s 25 November 2025 statement records £1.2 million and a further £0.5 million in support while a longer-term outcome was being confirmed. This support formed part of the effort to avert interruption during the transition; it should not be confused with a permanent subsidy or a guarantee of future Loganair schedules. The government’s account of its analysis, support, and contingency planning is set out in its ministerial statement and timeline.

What affected Blue Islands passengers could do
The Jersey Government’s 14 November 2025 advice told affected passengers to find and book an alternative airline or ferry journey, check travel insurance and card protections, and look for the nearest convenient alternative route. Its examples of British Airways and easyJet capacity via London airports and specified DFDS sailings applied to the immediate 14–16 November disruption; they are historical contingency information, not current schedules. The notice also said UK/EU 261 protections did not apply in this airline-failure scenario and that ATOL protection did not apply.
For a Blue Islands ticket that was not used, recovery depends on how it was bought and what cover applies. The CAA’s current failure-of-scheduled-airlines guidance lists these routes:

- Booked directly by debit or charge card: ask the provider about a possible chargeback. A refund is not automatic.
- Travel insurance: check the policy for scheduled-airline-failure cover (SAFI) and contact the insurer. Policies differ; they may cover the original ticket cost, additional replacement-flight costs, or neither.
- Booked through a travel agent: contact the agent, which may be responsible for handling the booking or advising on next steps.
Keep booking confirmations, proof of payment, cancellation notices, and receipts for replacement travel. These records help a card provider, insurer, or agent assess a claim; they do not guarantee reimbursement.

Loganair’s Channel Islands entry followed a specific airline failure and a government-led transition. It should not be treated as evidence that the company will maintain every thin or regional route without public support. In a separate case, Transport Scotland announced on 6 August 2026 that over £1 million of Scottish Government funding to HIAL would support full restoration of Inverness services to Stornoway, Kirkwall, and Sumburgh from 26 October 2026. Transport Scotland said work would continue toward a sustainable long-term solution.

That Scottish funding concerns different routes and a different public-support arrangement; it does not determine the status of Loganair’s Channel Islands licences. It does illustrate why an airline’s stated commitment, an authorised schedule, and the financial arrangements that make a route viable are separate questions. The Scottish Government’s details are in Transport Scotland’s 6 August 2026 announcement; the separate parliamentary discussion took place on 24 June 2026.
