The figures differ in scope, date, and method. The probate number is a UK record reported by a newspaper; the almost-£200-million figure was a press estimate of worldwide wealth; and the dollar figure is an online estimate. They should not be combined or treated as interchangeable. No verified current worldwide estate balance sheet is established by these sources.
What the UK probate figure includes—and what it does not establish
The Independent reported that probate records showed £99,226,700, reduced to £98,916,400 after expenses. The report also described estimated property worth £40 million in Switzerland and Britain, including Friar Park at an estimated £15 million. It said the estate was believed to include rights to songs such as “My Sweet Lord,” the album All Things Must Pass, and income from film production, including Monty Python’s Life of Brian.
Those asset descriptions and property values are reported estimates, not a complete itemized balance sheet. Probate establishes a specific historical UK figure; it does not by itself answer what all assets worldwide would be worth today.

How Harrison built wealth beyond the Beatles
Harrison was a guitarist, singer, and songwriter with the Beatles, and he also built a substantial solo career and worked as a film producer. His 1970 album All Things Must Pass became his most commercially successful record, according to The Guardian’s obituary. He also formed Handmade Films, adding film production to his music career.
His music catalog remained an active business asset after his death. In 2022, BMG announced a publishing agreement with the Harrison estate, identifying Harrisongs Limited as the publishing company Harrison founded. The announcement also described Dark Horse Records, founded by Harrison in 1974 and then led by Dhani Harrison and David Zonshine. The agreement shows ongoing rights management, but it does not disclose the estate’s value or annual income. See BMG’s announcement.

The Independent also reported that Beatles greatest-hits compilation success was believed to have increased Harrison’s net worth by up to 25 percent during his final year. The article did not explain how that estimate was calculated, so it should be treated as reported context rather than a measured change.

In 2001, the Irish Independent reported that most of Harrison’s almost £200 million fortune would go to his wife, Olivia, and son, Dhani. It also reported that up to 10 percent would go to Hare Krishna causes and up to £5 million to unnamed children’s charities. These were contemporary press reports, not a substitute for the will or complete estate accounts.
