Neither model guarantees a return, and official pages do not provide enough comparable data to calculate a typical hourly earning rate.
What games actually pay real money?
Among the two models described by the services below, Skillz offers a path to withdrawable cash through eligible cash tournaments. Mistplay offers rewards for qualifying gameplay, but its terms say Units cannot be redeemed for cash. A gift card or in-app reward may have value, but it is not the same as cash deposited to a bank or payment account.

How Skillz cash tournaments work
Skillz describes itself as a multiplayer tournament platform with both cash and virtual-currency modes. Its support page, updated July 5, 2026, says a player adds cash and uses it to enter cash tournaments. Prizes from cash competitions go into a wallet and can be withdrawn as cash; promotional Bonus Cash can be used to play but is not itself directly withdrawable. Winning is conditional, and entry money is at risk
This is a competition, not payment for time spent playing. You may pay an entry fee and lose the entry money; a cash prize depends on winning under that tournament’s terms. Treat an entry as money at risk, not as an investment or an expected return. Check the specific game and competition rules before paying.
Age and location restrict eligibility
Skillz says cash competitions are for players over 18 in places where cash gameplay is enabled. Its overview of Skillz, updated April 17, 2025, states: “Cash competitions are available to all players over the age of 18 in areas of the world where cash gameplay is enabled.” That is Skillz’s own eligibility description, not a claim that cash play is available everywhere. Skillz also says players are matched with opponents of similar skill and that results are validated by its servers. Those are the platform’s descriptions of its system, not independently tested findings.
How Mistplay rewards work—and what changed for some users
Mistplay rewards users for playing selected games and completing eligible milestones, tasks, and promotions. Its support page, updated February 13, 2025, lists gift cards among possible redemptions and says the app is available through Google Play on supported Android devices. Offers and earning amounts can differ by user.

Units are rewards points, not withdrawable cash
Mistplay’s terms of use say rewards vary by catalog and region, and Units generally cannot be redeemed for cash. Tracking and reward credit depend on gameplay data from partner games and their reporting. That means completing an activity does not necessarily establish that a reward will be credited if the required tracking data is not received. Review the applicable offer and redemption details in the app.
June 30, 2026 change for new U.S. Android users
Under Mistplay’s terms effective June 30, 2026, new users in the United States on Android enter an events-first rewards experience. In that experience, Units are used for Shop rewards and in-app experiences; Gems are earned on eligible in-app purchases and cannot be exchanged for Units or redeemed in the Shop. This description is specific to new U.S. Android users under those terms, not a universal description of every Mistplay account.

How to judge a game’s money-making claim
Before signing up or spending, check the details that determine whether an advertised “payout” is useful to you:
- What form is the reward? Separate withdrawable cash from a nonwithdrawable bonus, points, gift cards, and in-app rewards.
- Do you have to pay to participate? Look for deposits, entry fees, and any purchase requirement. For tournaments, assume an entry fee can be lost.
- What triggers the reward? Determine whether you must win a competition or complete gameplay that the app successfully tracks.
- Can you use the service? Confirm country, age, and device eligibility before spending time or money.
- What are the redemption conditions? Check the available rewards, minimum redemption, withdrawal method, processing delay, and any deadline shown in the current rules or offer.
- How much time will it take? Compare the time required with the reward you can actually redeem. Do not treat promotional examples or individual anecdotes as a typical hourly rate.
Can you really make money playing games?
Sometimes a player may win withdrawable cash in an eligible tournament, but the possibility of a prize is not a predictable wage. A rewards app can provide gift cards or other catalog rewards, but points are not cash and the amount and availability depend on the user, region, offers, and tracking. The official Skillz and Mistplay pages cited here do not establish typical earnings or enough comparable payout information to calculate an earnings-per-hour figure.
